I am quite late with this newsletter mostly because I was preparing for the wonderful annual Jyotish Kumbha Mela that took place at the Arsha Vidya Gurukulam in Saylorsburg PA and at the same time my hard drive crashed and so I had to get a new one, and order a disk that contained all my information on am first able now to get this out. The month of June saw Mercury stationing direct on June 3 and Saturn stationing retrograde on June 4. Scroll down below for information about both of these events, since Mercury came out of its shadow or retrograde arc on June 19, 2022.

Scroll below for upcoming classes and conferences (next one is July 29 on Western Techniques in Jyotisa) as well recent conferences and webinars where you can purchase recordings and view online.

Scroll down to make an appointment for a consultation. • June 19, 2022. Mercury/Budha Leaves Retrograde Arc or Shadow. Tropical 04°Gemini 51'. Sidereal 10°Taurus 47’. rohiṇī

When Mercury went direct on June 3, 2022, many of the snafus that you feel under Mercury Retrograde eased up. However even though Mercury is direct, it is still within what we call its shadow or retrograde arc, that is the period from when Mercury first crosses the degree where it eventually goes direct until the date when Mercury crosses for the final time the degree where it first stationed retrograde, as you can see in the above table. This is important with planets such as Mercury, Venus and Mars, in that if you have a planet, point, or angle in between Tropical 26°Taurus 05' - 04° Gemini 51' or Sidereal 2° Taurus 01’ - 10° Taurus 47’ you may have felt this particular Mercury retrograde more than usual. Look back over the last few weeks and see for yourself.

The good news is that we won't have to deal with that pesky Mercury retrograde until September 10 - October 2. Right now get used to moving ahead with plans that may have been put on hold, or that may have slowed down. You can start making those plans now and now that we are out of Mercury''s retrograde arc, they will begin to manifest. Look at the area in your chart that is framed by the degrees of the retrograde and direct station.

I want to relate a story that I included here a few years ago so for those who are new, and those who forgot, it is quite an interesting Mercury retrograde tale. In December 2017 when Mercury stationed retrograde I lost a sentimental pendant that my mother gave me many years ago. It must have fallen off the chain as I was walking to an office where I do my workshops, since at some point in the office I noticed that the chain had opened and there was no pendant. I scoured the office madly thinking it must have dropped but it was not there. I assumed it fell off on my way from the car to the office, and that I would never find it. I searched the internet thinking I could find a pendant like it though it is a very unique, vintage piece. I searched several times and never found one like it. I tried again a few weeks later. None of the horary astrologers I asked came up with the right location, and other astrologers assured me I would find it when Mercury went direct. Well, I just accepted the fact that it was gone and hoped that at some point I would find it, or see one like it on the internet on a site like eBay or Etsy.

When the next Mercury retrograde period began in March 2018, more than three months after I lost it I decided to try the internet again. Using a description in the Google search engine, I actually found one that looked just like it on Etsy so I bought it. When it arrived I saw the postmark was a jewelry store in New York City, where I live, and I can only assume that someone found it, and sold it to the jewelry store, since it is the exact same vintage piece of jewelry. What I found most interesting was that I lost the piece on Mercury retrograde and then found it again on the next Mercury retrograde. I never believed that Mercury retrograde brings us back to something in the past that was unresolved. But maybe now I am a believer!! However I do think by virtue of the fact that Mercury slows things up we can pay more attention to things that we glossed over in the past. I had not gone back on the internet to look for the pendant in a few months, so maybe the ability to focus on a past event was the answer. Whatever it was I continue to be happy to have the pendant back in my possession.

Saturn Stations Retrograde

June 4, 2022. Saturn/śani Stations Retrograde (vakra). Tropical 25° Aquarius 15'. Sidereal 1° Aquarius 11’. dhaniṣṭhā

August 14, 2022. Sun/Surya opposite Saturn/śani. Tropical. 21°Le-Aq 54’. Sidereal. 27°Cn-Cp 49’. aśleṣā-dhaniṣṭhā

October 23, 2022. Saturn/śani Stations Direct. Tropical. 18° Aquarius 35'. Sidereal 24° Capricorn 30’. dhaniṣṭhā

Because Jupiter through Pluto move slowly I do not use their retrograde arcs for the period in which they retrograde but the actual period between the retrograde and direct station. Planets retrograde when they "appear" to move backwards, slow their speed and move closest to the earth in their orbit. Saturn stations and goes retrograde every year for a little more than 4 1/2 months. Like all retrogrades of the superior planets (Mars-Pluto), the opposition with the Sun comes midway through the cycle, and that is a/strong degree. You will be affected by Saturn if you have a planet, point, or angle in between tropical 18° Aquarius 35' - 25° Aquarius 15', or sidereal 24° Capricorn 30’ - 1° Aquarius 11’. If you do then that will be hit by Saturn three times, and if you have anything within a degree of the retrograde or direct station, it will hit something in your chart twice. If the planetary station hits something, that station can linger for a few weeks so do take note since the station being very potent.. You may also be affected if you have something at the degree of the opposition Tropical. 21°Le-Aq 54’. Sidereal. 27°Cn-Cp 49’ and the world may be affected around August 13-15, due to the intensity of the opposition.

But if you do not have anything around one degree away then you still should look at the house/bhava Saturn retrograde travels through and wherever that falls in your chart will simply have Saturn slowing up. If the Saturn retrograde hits a planet or angle that falls in between the retrograde and direct degree, you will have to concentrate on the area that planet represents, and/or the house that the planet rules. Because you may get stalled on something that will make a difference the frustration may just become too great. Be patient, and flexible, since wherever Saturn falls is where you will be slowed down, feel frustrated, but where you must work hard and stand the test of time, and if you do you could be successful, or you might just keep plodding along for the next few months. There may be dramatic occurrences in the world especially as we get near to the end of July (more about that in the July News and Views) so your patience and tolerance and ability to persevere with Saturn retrograde will prove very useful. Expect things to be tense during that time in the world, and if lessons are learned then we will move in another direction of restructuring and rebuilding.
