Organizational Updates
A Distributed Workforce
Allegany Franciscan Ministries has embraced the distributed workforce model. Many of our team members now happily work 100% from home. The remaining team members work a hybrid schedule alternating between the office and home. This provides many benefits, including enjoyment of a better life balance, less commute stress, daily flexibility, and a positive environmental impact. We don’t anticipate fully reopening our offices.

To reach our staff, call us at (727) 507-9668 and leave a message. Our phone system converts your voice message into an email. You can also email staff directly. Visit our staff web page for email addresses.

Kathie Hardy Retires
Longtime staff member Kathie Hardy retired in May. Kathie was our Administrative and Grant Services Coordinator who provided comprehensive administrative support to the entire staff team. She also managed bookkeeping and supported day-to-day operations and communications with our board. Kathie's expertise and calm presence made her incredibly effective in her role. We wish Kathie much happiness and relaxation in her retirement.

ACH Electronic Payments Update
Allegany Franciscan Ministries is still actively working to fully implement and launch ACH electronic payments as an alternative to paper checks for our partners. We encountered some setbacks in our payment process which has significantly delayed our original anticipated launch date. We are sorry for the delay and any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your continued patience as we work to finalize the last details of our ACH process. Stay tuned for future communications and updates!

LINCOLN PARK
Summer Youth Programs
The Common Good Initiative partnered for the third year with the St. Lucie County Children’s Services Council to provide matched funding to six summer programs in the Lincoln Park community. This year, organizations were funded at various amounts ranging from $1,000 - $20,000 - resulting in total award of $49,800. These programs focus on summer learning, healthy activities and community engagement. This opportunity afforded Lincoln Park parents a safe place for their kids to have a quality summer experience. This funding opportunity aligns with the Lincoln Park Common Good Initiative priority of safe and healthy neighborhoods by creating positive wellness opportunities for the youth.
OVERTOWN
My Journey to a Culture of Health
By Daniel Gibson, Regional Vice President, Miami-Dade
I recently graduated from my three-year fellowship as a Robert Wood Johnson Culture of Health Leader (CoHL). As a CoHL, I was encouraged to approach every aspect of my personal and professional life through a lens of racial equity and justice. “What impact does racism have on Black-owned business and entrepreneurs in Miami?” “Why aren’t Black households and Black entrepreneurs in Miami benefiting from the local economic boom and mobility that Miami’s White and Latinx households are experiencing?” Me asking these types of questions helped to catapult the Overtown Common Good Initiative into exciting efforts to improve how Miami’s Black entrepreneurs and businesses are supported, launched, and grown today.

Hustle to Scale Documentary:
One tangible outcome of my fellowship is a new documentary short titled “Hustle to Scale” that celebrates black entrepreneurs in Miami. Applying resources and education through the program, I coproduced this documentary with Common Good partner, aīre ventures, to highlight the power building partnerships that the Overtown Common Good Initiative is developing on behalf of local Black-owned businesses.

The first full-length viewing of Hustle to Scale premiered on PBS South Florida on June 19, 2021. And we are now promoting the documentary to other media outlets and film festivals nationwide. You can watch the Hustle to Scale trailer below. Read full article.

WIMAUMA
Immigration Services
Immigration policy and enforcement are important issues for people across Florida, and especially for families living in Wimauma. For context, according to the US Census/American Community Survey 2019, 72.8% of people in the Wimauma CDP (Census Designated Place) are Hispanic or Latinx; 31.5% are foreign-born persons; and for 69.9%, a language other than English is spoken at home. Immigration laws can be confusing and scary, but many immigrants do not have the resources to pay for assistance in understanding and navigating them.

Allegany Franciscan Ministries, at the recommendation of the Wimauma Council for the Common Good, recently awarded a $300,000 grant to expand immigration services offered by Redlands Christian Migrant Association (RCMA) into Wimauma. Funds will support two full-time Family Support Workers (FSW) and an attorney as well as other expenses related with establishing a focused immigration program for Wimauma. RCMA will also have an additional FSW and two child care workers on site on Saturdays, expanding the opportunity for families to access services and information. The attorney and FSWs will help families understand and navigate the complexities of the immigration process, support and assist families in building skills and providing safe and healthy environments for their children, represent clients in immigration court, and more.

In addition, educational workshops will be held at least quarterly on topics such as trending immigration issues/myths, Know Your Rights and notario fraud (predatory schemes alleging to offer legal services). A Know Your Rights virtual workshop was held in mid-July, in Spanish, through a collaboration of RCMA, Wimauma Community Development Corporation, Enterprising Latinas, Gulf Coast Legal Services, and the Unidos por Wimauma Collaborative. For more information about RCMA's immigration services, visit rcma.org/immigration.

ST. CLARE
Help the Helper
Allegany Franciscan Ministries is delighted to have been able to join a collaborative funder effort that raised $433,000 called the Help the Helpers Initiative. This initiative supports the well-being of nonprofit employees for their dedication as essential employees in providing critical services in Palm Beach County during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program was administered by the Nonprofit Chamber of Palm Beach County and served 137 nonprofits, benefiting 4,785 employees with cash, gift cards, training opportunities focused on self-care, mindfulness, stress reduction or adoption of supports typically provided by Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental health services. In addition to the grant awards, 20 memberships will be given to small, health and human services nonprofits led by people of color to join the Nonprofit Chamber. Funders for this initiative include United Way of Palm Beach County, The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, Jim Moran Foundation, Bank of America, Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County, and Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties.
