March at One.
Welcome to March! We really have had an easy time of it this winter, but despite that, the cooler temps and gray skies may have been keeping you a little more sedentary. This month's newsletter is filled with info on how to keep you moving and just why that is so important.
Along those lines, Jennifer will be speaking for the local group, What's Next (a subgroup of the New Annapolitans), on March 8th at 3:30 PM via zoom for
10 Strategies for Living an Active, Fit and Resilient Life
New Annapolitans is a club is for newcomers to the area or long-term residents who want to expand their social horizons are accepted each year.
As you read our newsletter this month, our hope is that you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy creating it for you to learn about the latest in health news and what is happening in our community. Please feel free to share with anyone you think might benefit, there is no bigger compliment to us than that.
Yours in Wellness,
Jennifer and Christina

Do you have a pain that won't go away?

Give Lightforce Class IV Deep Tissue Laser Therapy A Try
Low-level laser irradiation can have a positive response for tissues that exhibit microvascular compromise and become anoxic secondary to metabolic injury with resulting microvascular inflammation, oxidative injury, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Lasers of low-intensity initiate analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and biostimulatory effects, resulting in an increase in local microcirculation and increased healing. Increasing microcirculation induces an essential function in the tissue repair process and in pain control. This process allows increases in oxygenation and nutritional supply to tissues to aid in healing.
For the month of March, One. is offering first laser sessions free to new clients. If you have a pain that has been nagging you and hasn't responded to traditional treatment, check out what a difference the Lightforce Class IV Deep Tissue laser can make.

Acupuncture for Shoulder Pain
|
|
Are you experiencing shoulder pain from a rotator cuff injury?
Or are you unable to move your shoulder because of pain or restriction?
Did you know acupuncture can often help relieve pain and help you get the mobility back in your shoulder from a frozen shoulder?
The rotator cuff muscles are four different muscles that work together to keep your shoulder joint stable and provide the ability to rotate and have full
range of motion of the shoulder. These muscles can often become injured do to overuse or injury which can make it very painful to move your shoulder or lift your arm; this can lead to frozen shoulder.
Frozen shoulder is caused when the shoulder glenohumeral joint capsule becomes thick and inflamed which makes it very painful and difficult to lift your arm. Acupuncture has a high success rate at helping relieve
frozen shoulder and rotator cuff pain. Schedule an appointment for acupuncture with Jeff today.

Jan's Notes
Being this is March and Jen & I both share birthdays this month, I thought I’d send a birthday shout out to her!
(Jennifer's note: I did not put Jan up to this I swear ;)
Aries Spirit animals are: (Jen’s)
Ram, Hawk, Tiger, Hummingbird & Porcupine
(well this explains A LOT)
March babies are said to be happy and optimistic, they will either be a Pisces (Jan) or an Aries (Jen)in star sign. Pisces are said to be optimistic, ambitious and have determination. Aries are said to be fiery and passionate.
While exploring things to submit to the One. Newsletter, I thought of things that Jen & I discovered about ourselves over the years. Being a Pisces, I love a good sense of humor but I am equally elusive & a dreamer who hardly sits for any amount of time, so writing this is a challenge for me!
At any rate, Jen & I both share the following: (We)
Embrace Annapolis
Lived in New Jersey
Have been to Montauk, Long Island
Have a dislike for the Philadelphia Eagles (for many reasons!!)
Care about helping others
Enjoy listening to good music
Have a passion for nature (love our team One. Logo (trees)
Oh, and we were both born in March!
I know I should be writing something more serious like certain Yoga poses & what they mean but that’s for a future submission.
Today it’s to celebrate someone who raises us all up, inspires us to show up and who truly is passionate about her work, people & living life to the fullest!
So, let’s all raise a glass to celebrate Jen’s birthday month & to say ‘thank you’ for introducing you to me & me to you…
Happy Birthday, Jen
(Thank you Jan for this lovely tribute XOXOXO Jennifer)

More than 40% of American school-aged children have at least one chronic disease, and this number may be higher when it comes to babies and toddlers. As 80% of the human immune system lies in the gut and is programmed in the first 1,000 days of a person’s life, researchers are turning toward early microbiome development for answers.
Keeping track of an infant’s microbiome enables families to take action to reduce and reverse risks for eczema, allergies, asthma, autism and other chronic diseases later in life. Tiny Health offers at-home tests for babies 0-3 years of age, as well as for expecting moms and those trying to conceive.

Five minutes of light walking every half hour can help alleviate some of the increased risk that comes with sitting for long stretches of the day, according to the study published Thursday in the journal of the American College of Sports Medicine.
The scientific community has known for decades that sitting can increase risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease and certain types of cancers, said Keith Diaz, the study’s lead author and assistant professor of behavioral medicine at Columbia University Medical Center. But until now there haven’t been clear guidelines about how long you can sit and how often you should be moving.
Does five minutes every half hour still seem like a stretch? Even little “activity snacks” like one minute of walking every hour was shown to reduce blood pressure in study participants by a “sizable amount,” Diaz said.

A common nail salon tool may cause DNA damage and mutations in human cells, research finds
By Kristen Rogers, CNN
Updated 2:28 PM EST, Wed January 25, 2023
Radiation from nail dryers may damage DNA and cause cancer-causing mutations in human cells, a new study has found — and that might have you wondering whether your regular gel mani-pedi is worth the risk.
Some dermatologists say the findings, in a study published January 17 in the journal Nature Communications, aren’t new when it comes to concerns about ultraviolet, or UV, light from any source. In fact, the results reaffirm the reason why some dermatologists have changed the way they get their gel manicures or have stopped getting them altogether.
“The findings contribute to data already published regarding the harmful effects of (ultraviolet) radiation and show direct cell death and damage to tissue that can lead to skin cancer,” said Dr. Julia Curtis, an assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Utah, who wasn’t involved in the study.
“Tanning beds are listed as carcinogenic and UV nail lamps are mini tanning beds for your nails in order to cure the gel nail,” Curtis said.
