Coalition Spotlight on the Johnson County Prevention Partnership:
The Johnson County Prevention Partnership (JCPP) is a newer coalition that began in 2019. The goal of the Prevention Partnership is: To prevent the harmful use of substances and reduce substance abuse by youth throughout Johnson County. The Prevention Partnership will actively work with young people, build community connections, engage in meaningful dialogue, utilize community resources, support people in recovery and embrace their families.
The Prevention Partnership used the Strategic Prevention Framework to assess the need for a coalition in Johnson County, continues to build capacity for the Partnership, and is in the implementation step of its action plan. The Partnership was able to continue to meet during the COVID-19 pandemic through the use of virtual meetings. A concerted effort is being made to involve youth and reach out to smaller communities in Johnson County. The Johnson County Prevention Partnership applied for a Drug Free Communities Grant in May 2021 and are hopeful to be awarded funding. Partnership members are working on a Townhall Meeting that will be held sometime in October 2021. The focus will be on Underage Drinking and how the pandemic has impacted high risk drinking choices among youth.
(Thanks, Kristin Frank, for telling us about JCPP! We hope your DFC application is awarded funding too!)

AC4C's June Work Retreat In Person (Hybrid) was a Success! Next
Quarterly Retreat is
September 15 and 16!
We had a great meeting in June with 41 people attending all or part of the 2 day work retreat, 25 in-person and the rest virtually. The Midwest Counterdrug Training Center (MCTC) will be hosting us again on September 15 and 16. They are not able to offer lodging support this time. If you need assistance with paying for a hotel room, please contact Jennifer Husmann.
As much as we would love everyone to attend in person, we know that is not always possible. Like the last work retreat, we will send out a Zoom Gov link for those who need to attend all or part of the 2 days virtually. Please still register. MCTC will send out an email before the retreat where you can indicate whether you will be coming in-person, virtually, or some of each.
One of the main focuses of the work retreat will be a cultural competency/sensitivity training. Besides Action Team and Workgroup time, those who have attended CADCA Mid-Year or the NPN Conference will have the opportunity to discuss their highlights at the retreat. We'll have state partner sharing again where we always learn so much. The agenda will be coming out soon to members by email and will be posted in next month's Roundtable. Register HERE today!
