Keeper Leverett Sherman Stanley Painting the Tower

at Bass Harbor Head Light - #7856

Warmer weather signals the start of many outdoor chores, painting being chief among them. While for most people this means a boat or a house, Leverett Sherman Stanley spent a May morning in 1949 painting the Bass Harbor Head Light. Charles Dix Thurston, grandson of the first lighthouse keeper, John Thurston, was actually born in the lighthouse when his mother went into labor while visiting.
