Despite obstacles of slavery, poverty, and segregation, African Americans were super organizers and joiners of fraternal orders. Hear about the history and stories of these orders.
Susan Deborah King, a summer resident of Great Cranberry Island, will give a reading from her poetry, including excerpts from her two most recent books: Moon Dance (island poems) and Though It Can’t Last.
This is a wonderful opportunity to hear one of the most significant chamber music programs in the country and to see students perform who are about to move onto major orchestras and chamber groups.
Author Maya Myers will read her new picture book Not Little and author Casey Robinson will read her new picture book Small Things Mended. Join us after for a Pop-up Bookshop in front of the Pemetic School.

While for most people this means a boat or a house, Leverett Sherman Stanley spent a May morning in 1949 painting theBass Harbor Head Light. Charles Dix Thurston, grandson of the first lighthouse keeper, John Thurston, was actually born in the lighthouse when his mother went into labor while visiting.
