Microplastics are minuscule grains of broken down plastics, primarily from debris and food packaging. They can be found in household dust, toys, electronics, shampoo, grocery bags, and more. A recent study commissioned by the WWF found that the average person consumes roughly five grams of plastic, the equivalent of a credit card, a week. The ingestion of these has been associated with hormonal cancers, reproductive issues, and more.
To best avoid microplastics and their harmful effects we can drink tap water instead of bottled, not heat up food in plastic containers, eat fresh foods, and minimizing household dust.
