Greetings Community Members, and Partners –

As each of you know, our primary goal as a college is to increase the educational attainment levels within our service area communities. It is our hope that most adults have some form of post-secondary credential in the form of a workforce certificate or transfer-based degree. However, we understand that with increased prices in gas, mortgage, food, and other commodities, the expense of going to college can be a barrier.

Therefore, Lone Star College is taking several steps to remove the barrier of costs.

Financial Aid

Our Chancellor, Dr. Stephen C. Head, has been leading the way nationally to get the FASFA (financial aid application) simplified and amount of PELL increased. This work greatly impacts our students at LSC-Houston North since 1 out of every 2 non-dual credit students are on PELL.

Visit the link below for more information about Lone Star College financial aid.

What is a Pell Grant?

Federal Pell Grants usually are awarded only to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor's, graduate, or professional degree.

A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid, except under certain circumstances. Find out why you might have to repay all or part of a federal grant.

You may not receive Federal Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time.

Scholarships

A couple of weeks ago, the Lone Star College Foundation held its annual Star Gala to raise funds for Lone Star College students. Over $440,000 was raised for the entire LSC system at this event.

At LSC-Houston North, 127 students received foundation scholarships during this past year.

These scholarships are utilized to cover tuition and fees for the students. LSC-Houston North will continue to raise funds to eliminate additional barriers that students might face.

CARES Funding

The federal government is still allowing for C.A.R.E.S. (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) funding during the fall semester. This funding was provided to help the college cover the costs of losses related to COVID.

As part of the legislative act, institutions are required to give half of the funds to students. Lone Star College is going beyond this requirement to give 75% of the funds to students.

Lone Star College-Houston North students have received over 3,000 financial awards due to this act.

• $300 donation will cover the tuition for a student to attend on course at LSC.

• $1,200 donation will cover a 12-hour semester (four courses) for a student.
