Visual Stops in a Painting

Let's discuss a concept in art composition called a “visual stop” or “eye stopper.” This technique helps keep the viewer's attention within the painting, guiding their gaze around the artwork without letting it wander off the canvas. It's a powerful tool for creating engaging compositions that tell a story or highlight specific elements.

Are you ready to dive into a world of boundless creativity and breathtaking landscapes? We have something truly exciting in store for you – our very own Landscape Reference Challenge is underway! This is your chance to explore, experiment, and express your unique vision through the versatile medium of acrylic paints.

Your task is to find a landscape photograph that you feel will be a good reference for a painting. We have assembled a list of websites that offer free images that you are encouraged to explore, so click the image above or the button below. You do not have to use Unsplash if you don't want to. We have plenty of others from which to select.

This Challenge does not include edits. You should only post a photo from one of the free sites that you think would make a good painting. The photo will be discussed in the Zoom call.

We are planning a Zoom call to discuss the submitted images on Saturday, April 20, at 2:00 p.m. Central Time.

Zoom Call REPLAY Time!

Did you miss last week's Zoom Call about the Second Round of Reference Photos?

Jon and Ginger on various topics, including design principles in photography, painting, and the use of AI and other software for photo editing and painting. They also explored the challenges of learning new skills, scaling applications, and improving website navigation and search functionality. Towards the end, they addressed issues related to finding specific artwork, the use of social media for sharing work, and the importance of updating personal bios on their main site.

There were some great photos and lot of discussion as we went through them all. This video is about 2-1/2 hours long, so be prepared to learn a lot!

Also, if you have questions about the tools that you're trying to use, please use the forum to ask the question, because other RPMs might have the same questions.
