Protecting our threatened species
Did you know Hooded Plovers or 'hoodies' have previously nested at Hallett Cove?
Last year alone, there were 93 nests along the metro coastline.
This threatened species nests in a shallow scrape in sand, above the high tide mark or in dunes.
While foxes and disturbance by dogs impacts on the nesting activity, our 'hoodies' are being monitored thanks to the efforts of Birdlife Australia volunteers.
Make sure you keep an eye out for 'beach nesting bird signs' and keep your dog on a leash within 100m of the signs.
Find out more about the secret life of this threatened species at two workshops in Normanville.
