Pastor's Message

It's time to celebrate!

I have mixed feelings as I write these words, but I do think it's true. On April 28th, we are celebrating Kris Miller's retirement. She will still be working at Grace till the end of May, but we wanted a day that was all about Kris.

I don't have to tell you how extraordinary Kris is; you all have your own stories. You have experienced her pastoral care, compassion, her attention to detail. She knows you and she loves you all. I know this because every time someone moves away or finds another church, Kris mourns. Every time someone from Grace is going through a difficulty, she worries, checks in and prays. She believes in the ministry of Grace and she lives it out. I could go on and on. And I probably will on April 28th.

For now, I want to give you an opportunity to say thank you to Kris. Come join us for worship. Following each service we will have a reception time. Also, we are inviting people who would like to contribute money to a gift for Kris. Kris and Doug bought a few years ago and I know they have things they would like for cabin life. If you would like to make a donation to this fund, please mark your check: Kris Miller's gift, or give through miscellaneous on realm and in the memo indicate Kris Miller's gift.

Please join us for this important day. If there was ever anyone worth celebrating at Grace it is our beloved Kris Miller!

Blessings,

Pastor Joanna Mitchell

Construction Updates

Week of April 1-5, 2024

If there was ever a week within this project that we could claim was transformational, this has to be the one. The knotty pine wall adorning the west exposure was removed, windows have been cut into the north wall, now hiding behind covered scaffolding, and each of the other block walls have some sort of new coverings from insulation to plastic sheeting to sheetrock. But that’s not all; work has continued throughout the building. The day care has windows and all the sheetrock installed and taping is underway. The kitchen has all the sheetrock installed and it is all mudded and taped. Work that cannot be seen from ground level has been underway on the roof. New roof top units were installed over the day care addition and the gas lines supplying them were installed. It was a milestone week!

Thank You To All For Packing At FMSC!

On Saturday, April 6th, we had more than 30 people from the Grace community that joined together to pack meals last Saturday at Feed My Starving Children in Coon Rapids. The group included members of Grace, family, neighbors, and friends of all ages. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated in this fun event!

Together our group from Grace packed 34 cases of Mana Pack meals. Each case contained 36 Mana Pack envelopes that feed 6 children each. That is a total of $7,000+ meals that our group packed in about 90 minutes of work. The meals we packed will be shipping to Zambia in southern Africa where they will feed hungry children. I hope you can join us for another meal packing event later this year!

Thanks for serving and sharing God’s Love!

Graceful Seniors in Concert with Dr. David Cherwien

The Graceful Seniors made a field trip on Tuesday April 9th to nearby Lord of Life to take part in a concert and sing-a-long led by Dr. David Cherwien.

Dr. Cherwien directed the National Lutheran Choir for 21 years, retiring this past May. He now has the time to host concerts like this one in our community. Very accomplished at both the piano and organ, Dr. Cherwien led the assembly in many treasured hymns such as Beautiful Savior, Great is Thy Faithfulness, A Might Fortress is our God, The Old Rugged Cross, and more. He also introduced us to a beautiful hymn written by his wife, O Blessed Spring, which had special meaning to him as she passed away 2 years ago. Dr. Cherwien provided context for each of the hymns we sang and had a great sense of humor!

Following the concert the Graceful Seniors enjoyed refreshments and fellowship with seniors from Lord of Life, Zion Lutheran and other churches in the area. It was a great and memorable experience for all who had a chance to meet and sing with Dr. David Cherwien!
