RE Schedule for 2022-2023
Each year, St. Alphonsus joyfully educates the children of our parish in their Catholic faith. If you would like to spend more time with children, strengthen the faith bonds in our families or enjoy serving in our parish— please consider volunteering as a catechist for our religious education program! We’d love to talk to you and no experience is necessary :) There are training
opportunities and support as you get started and throughout your time of service. Contact our RE Coordinator Erica Cook for more information.
Are you ready to become Catholic? Registration now open for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). If you or someone who know is interested, contact our pastoral associate Brooks Robinson.
Catechetical Sunday is celebrated on the third Sunday of September. The task of handing on the Gospel is entrusted to the whole community, who by word and example, form young and new members in the way of the Gospel. Parish programs assist parents in teaching the basics of faith through liturgical experience, instruction, and faith formation. This ministry is essential for the parish to grow, for individuals to develop as believers, and for the ongoing spiritual formation of the whole community. It reminds the church that preaching the Gospel and growing in faith are essential to our sacramental practice and our liturgical prayer.
Prayer Blessing for Our Catechists
Jesus, on the road to Emmaus,
your followers were frightened and alone;
you had just been put to death on a cross.
They met a man on the road leading away from Jerusalem
who told them all about you
and what your presence among them meant.
They did not realize that the man
speaking and walking with them was you,
raised from the dead.
When their eyes were opened and they received the gift of faith,
they turned around to spread the word.
We ask you to bless all your disciples
who now work as catechists in our parishes.
Bless them and give encouragement to their work,
that it will have an impact upon the world.
We ask all this in your name, Jesus,
our companion on the road from Emmaus.
Amen.
