Excessive use of force and racial profiling have been issues with which law enforcement has historically grappled throughout the United States. More recently, George Floyd's murder, trial and verdict brought those issues to center stage. This week's SFIC Online Briefing for Faith Leaders, hosted by the San Francisco Interfaith Council and supported by the COVID Command Center's Joint Information Center Virtual Outreach Team, welcomes San Francisco Police Department Chief William Scott, who will address those issues as well as precautions being taken to protect our City's Asian community in these times of discrimination, hate and violence. Chief Scott will also respond to questions submitted in advance by San Francisco faith leaders.

Chief William Scott
San Francisco Police Chief William Scott was sworn in by Mayor Ed Lee on January 23, 2017. Chief Scott joined SFPD after serving 27 years in the Los Angeles Police Department. Chief Scott grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, married with three children. He attended the University of Alabama with a degree in accounting. He is also a graduate of Senior Management of Institute of Policing. Chief Scott brings to the Department a keen focus on community policing and experience implementing major reforms. He leads SFPD as it undertakes key reforms laid out by the Department of Justice. “I believe San Francisco Police Department officers are dedicated to the community they serve, and I am committed to providing them with the support they need to do their jobs. It is my number one priority as Chief to continue the critical work to keep San Francisco and all of its residents safe.”
This particular briefing will depart from the established format. In lieu of a panel discussion Chief Scott will respond to questions submitted in advance by San Francisco faith leaders.
