Please take a few minutes to watch this message from Pastor Paul regarding
worship schedule changes starting this fall.
Click the link HERE or below:
Since last July, St. Matthew has operated with a “COVID” worship schedule that included a reduction of the number of worship gatherings and the addition of a telephone/online worship service and a monthly “drive-in” communion service. We are so grateful for God’s faithful provision to enable us to be with Him in worship during the pandemic. We are thankful for your continued generosity and patience as we’ve adapted to this fluid situation.

With the hope and prayer that God will lead us to some level of post-pandemic normalcy, the Elders approved the following worship schedule, with a target to start it September 12/13:

  • Walled Lake Sunday:
  • Sunday 8:45 am Blended style worship
  • Sunday 10:00 am Bible classes
  • Sunday 11:00 am Prayer & Praise style worship
  • Monday: 7:00 pm Blended style worship
  • Wixom:
  • 9:00 am Bible classes
  • 10:00 am New Vintage style worship

Offering only one Sunday Walled Lake Blended style worship gathering at a later time addresses the worship time desires of many and the decline of worship attendance, which can be a problem when a worship space is too empty. It also has the advantage of uniting all of the Walled Lake Sunday morning worshipers in dedicated Bible classes and fellowship.

The change of worship time at the Wixom campus also addresses the worship time desire of many. And it allows for the occasions when one preacher is covering all weekend worship services at both campuses.

God’s desire is for His people to gather together in-person for worship (Hebrews 10:25). So many who have returned to in-person worship have expressed how much they valued being together with God, the fellowship and encouragement of fellow believers, and the treasure of taking the Lord’s Supper together. With that in mind, the Elders also approved these worship related items:

  • Online worship: The 9:30 am Sunday online worship will end on September 5 (Labor Day weekend). Thereafter St. Matthew will continue to provide the worship dvds to homebound members; and restart posting sermon audios online.
  • First Wednesday drive-in communion: It will be discontinued after October 6.

Though change is not always easy, the Elders, after much prayer and discussion, believe that these changes are in the best interest of the people and mission of St. Matthew. We are excited to see how God will use this to be a blessing.
Lifting of COVID Restrictions in Worship
All COVID restrictions have been lifted in worship, with these exceptions: We will continue for a while to distribute communion elements in bags as you enter worship. And there will be a section on the right for those who want to wear a mask and social distance, like children who can’t yet be vaccinated. Thanks for your prayers, patience and love as we make this transition.

Ministry Highlights
  • NEW - Mrs. Alicia Brown Divine Call Decision After fervent prayer, the Holy Spirit has led Mrs. Brown to accept the Divine Call issued to her by Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran School. Mrs. Brown is a wonderful educator. She is deeply loved by our St. Matthew family; she will be dearly missed. We are confident that God has great plans for Mrs. Brown and her family. She will be a tremendous blessing for Our Savior’s educational ministry.
  • In addition, God is also at work at St. Matthew. In His perfect timing, He will lead the perfect person to serve as our second grade teacher. If you have the name of a potential qualified candidate for this position, please email Susan.Palka@st-matthew.org.
  • Last year, our school theme was “There Is No Impossible With You.” We are going to continue to boldly profess this biblical truth into the summer months as well as we look forward to watching the Lord at work in this situation!
  • Family Night #2 is July 13 from 5:30-8 p.m. Join us when you can!
  • Our first Family Night was fun and this one will be fun and WET! Dress for watery fun (and bring towels for the ride home!).
  • The tasty Iron Food truck will be back with us as well as Kona Ice to purchase dinner and tasty treats. We love supporting these small businesses while taking a break from cooking and eating great food!
  • We'll have cool crafts - have you ever made a sponge lei?! A bounce house and water slide, slip & slide, and more! We will provide some non-watery games for those who want to enjoy dry fun.
  • Some awesome music and a hope-filled message make the night complete.
  • IN CASE OF RAIN - If the weather is bad, we will move our fun to Tuesday, July 20. We would make that decision by 4:30 p.m. that day. Pray for good weather!
  • UPDATED: The July Mission of the Month is supporting our High School and College Mission Trips to Southeast Ohio partnering with Outreach Ministries.
  • Often it is hard for people to understand why students would take time off during the summer and actually pay for the opportunity to go help others. Here are some of the mission trip participants comments as to why they are excited to go serve in Ohio.
  • “I hope to learn more about how to outreach, communicate, and socialize better. Last time I was very service orientated, but this time I can’t wait to build relationships with those we serve.”
  • “I hope to show how God can work in people’s lives for good and how much He cares about His children. Covid hit so hard it was difficult to go to church and with online school it was so easy to get distracted by wordily things that I forget to stop and talk to God. I find it easier to talk to and see God through helping people, so I am excited for this opportunity.”
  • For 2021 our High School Team will be in Ohio July 18-24 and our College Age Team will be there August 1-7. How can you help and support this vital work of sharing Christ love? First please pray for our teams asking for God’s protection, good weather conditions, and safe travel. Other more tangible ways to support the efforts of our students include donating any of the following items (please contact John Welte as the list constantly changes):
  • Shovels
  • Rakes
  • Misc. yard tools for trimming trees, bushes
  • Electrical Cords
  • Paint Supplies
  • Electric Trimmers
  • Walmart Gift Cards-there are no Home Depots or Lowes so we are at Walmart daily for everything we need
  • Speedway Gas Cards-in one week of driving we will use over $1000 of fuel
  • You can also go the Youth Group Facebook page to see photos from past mission trips and follow this years’ teams. If you have additional questions or want to learn more, please contact John Welte.
  • Elected Officers Installation July 11 We will install our elected officers of St. Matthew in all our worship services on July 11. This includes members of the Executive Board (including newly elected secretary Lachelle Laney), Foundation Ministry chairperson of the School Board Ministry. Special thanks to our outgoing secretary Kari Gonzales and Foundation Ministry member Bob McGhee!
  • Blood Drive July 17, 2021 - 9:00am to 3:00pm - Wixom Campus Our next blood drive at Wixom is on Saturday July 17 from 9 AM to 3:00 PM. Our goal is to have at least 26 people sign up to give blood on that day. Your gift of blood can help save up to 3 lives. If you are willing to help, please sign up at the Red Cross website at redcrossblood.org (sponsor code:saintmatthewwixom) or email me with a preferred time. Thanks! - Marc Wiliford, jmwiliford@ameritech.net
  • See more details at st-matthew.org/BloodDrive
  • Positions Available! See the Employment Opportunities section below or visit st-matthew.org/employment for position openings at St. Matthew.
  • Walled Lake Campus Summer Hours Summer office hours for the Walled Lake Campus are Monday through Friday, 9am - 4pm. The doors will remain locked for safety reasons, so please ring the bell should you need to enter the building.
  • Please note that masks are now optional for all, but in accordance with the CDC, masks are recommended for unvaccinated individuals.
  • Also, as we are still looking to fill positions and take needed vacations, we are thankful for your patience! What a blessing it has been to serve you during this time and I continue to pray for our St. Matthew family as we enter into the summer months. Thanks for your continued support, and I pray that your summer is a time of renewal, filled with quality time in the Word, in prayer, with loved ones, and showing God's love and light in your neighborhoods, workplaces, to the world. -Gail
