MAY 7, 2021
Dear Henrick Hudson Community:
I hope this letter finds you well and ready to enjoy another spring weekend. While there may be some rain in the forecast, it looks like there will be plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities and Mother’s Day celebrations.

Springtime means that budget season is upon us, and we have been busy preparing and sharing the information you need to cast an informed vote on May 18.

Please refer to our website’s Budget Updates page, where you can find budget highlights, video presentations, the budget book, and a digital preview of the district’s budget newsletter. We are proud of to present a budget to the community that:

  • Maintains all current academic and extracurricular programming for our students
  • Focuses on school safety and social emotional learning
  • Includes $8.4 million in Cessation Funds to help offset tax increases due to Indian Point’s closure
  • Keeps the tax levy increase below the state-mandated tax cap for the Hendrick Hudson School District

This morning we launched the first in a series of six Community Budget Forums scheduled to take place over the next two weeks. I will be hosting these virtual community meetings with Assistant Superintendent for Business, Enrique Catalan. Each 45-minute forum will consist of a budget overview and a question/answer period. Click here for more details and meeting links.

While the May 18 School Budget Vote will take place in-person this year, the governor has relaxed eligibility requirements for absentee ballots. Click here to access the Voter Information page on our website, including links for absentee ballot applications.

At this past Wednesday’s Board of Education meeting, the district’s Capital Project was officially unveiled and celebrated. Assistant Superintendent for Business, Enrique Catalan, gave an overview of the projects that are winding down, and a video produced by the high school’s Video Club members was shared.

Finally, as we wrap up Teacher Appreciation Week, we thank all of our teachers and staff for going the extra mile (and beyond!) to provide our students with outstanding educational opportunities in the face of unprecedented challenges. Hendrick Hudson staff are always deserving of praise, and this year has been exceptional. Click here to watch a video we shared on social media earlier today.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend and a Happy Mother’s Day.

Regards,

Joseph Hochreiter
Superintendent
