The First Lady announces the May 2022 Spirit of Virginia Award


On May 26, Governor Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin presented the second Spirit of Virginia Award to Jill's House, an overnight respite care center in Vienna for families with children with intellectual disabilities. The Youngkin administration is committed to caring for Virginians with disabilities and their families.


The Spirit of Virginia Award recognizes unique qualities and standout achievements across the Commonwealth and salutes Virginians for their uncommon contributions in areas including private industries, education, culture and the arts and philanthropy.

Get to know Page Miyares, wife of Virginia's Attorney General, mother of three daughters and principal broker and owner of Atkinson Realty, and Margaret "Lyn" McDermid, Virginia's Secretary of Administration, IT professional and the first woman accepted to the Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding. The First Lady features impactful women across the Commonwealth in this biweekly series.

Send a Kid 2 Camp

Watch: The First Lady joins Clovia Lawrence to discuss the origins of the Send A Kid 2 Camp Radio-thon and the life-changing impact of summer camp for young girls and boys.

Help "Send A Kid 2 Camp"

Camp provides encouragement, protection, mentorship and learning for Virginia's young boys and girls during the summer months. Consider supporting the 15th annual Send A Kid 2 Camp Radio-thon, sponsored by Radio One Richmond and Project Give Back To Community. Donations will be collected through the end of June, with the goal of sending 100 youth to summer day camps this year.

In May, the Governor and First Lady visited the Virginia Employment Commission, which provides employers and job seekers with universal access to various workforce programs.

The Governor, First Lady and Cabinet Secretaries have continued to meet with agencies across the Commonwealth, learning how to improve the lives of Virginians. The Governor recently signed legislation delivering on his commitment to enact common sense solutions to make government work better for Virginians, with three bills that included meaningful reform of the Virginia Employment Commission.
