Update: Dogs at Amberley Green
At the July 12 meeting of council, Ordinance 2021-8, establishing leash regulations for dogs at Amberley Green, was passed. The ordinance will allow off-leash dogs during restricted hours as follows:

-Dawn – 9 a.m. daily
-One hour prior to dusk daily

The ordinance also restricts certain areas of the property where dogs must be on-leash, including the parking lot, near the clubhouse building and near the Community Garden.

Administrative staff is working on signage and promotional materials to ensure the new rules are clear to users of Amberley Green. These will include flyers and leave-behind cards for distribution by the Amberley Village Police Department, as well as social media, website and newsletter campaigns.

The new ordinance goes into effect on Thursday, August 26, 2021.
Amberley Village Swears in New Auxiliary Officers
Amberley Village welcomes several new auxiliary officers, two of whom were sworn in at the July Regular Meeting of Council. Shown above (l. to r.) are Auxiliary Officer Alex Price, Chief Richard L. Wallace and Auxiliary Officer Jamie Byrd.
Amberley Village Receives Tree City USA Award
Amberley Village received its 17th annual recognition as a Tree City USA municipality in 2020. Since COVID-19 prevented a formal ceremony, the City of Montgomery, which was scheduled to host the event, sent out congratulatory packets and plaques. These were presented at the July meeting of the Amberley Village Council, marking its first in-person meeting since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pictured above, Wendi Van Buren (r.) of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, presents residents (from l. to r.) Pete Duffy, Kathie Kraemer and Merrie Stillpass with Amberley Village's award.
July Legislative Action
Amberley Village Council meets on the second Monday of each month. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 9 at 6:30 pm, and will be held in Council Chambers at the Municipal Building, located at 7149 Ridge Road (see story under COVID-19 News & Updates below.)

Residents may submit comments in writing or attend in-person to participate. To speak at the meeting or submit written comments, please contact Clerk of Council Tammy Reasoner by noon the day of the meeting at 531-8675 or at tpreasoner@amberleyvillage.org
Pickleball, Anyone?
Amberley Village pickleball players rejoice - our two pickleball courts, which were striped for pickleball last spring, have grown in popularity! Regular groups meet and play on the courts, which have been adapted to accommodate both tennis and pickleball players.

Use of the courts is available to the public, but requires key card access which is available at a reduced rate for Amberley Village residents. Guests can be admitted to the courts when accompanied by a card-holder, and key cards can be purchased on a two-year cycle with a pro-rated cost during the second year. Card prices range from $35 - $70 for residents and $50 - $100 for non-residents, with fees from card sales helping to offset maintenance expenses and court supplies.
New Website Feature Spotlight!
In our ongoing efforts to simplify and engage residents in the legislative process, Amberley Village now offers committee agendas and packets online, as well as all-new, easy-to-identify icons to assist in locating areas of interest on the website calendar:
We've also added a new feature to the site which allows residents to download and view Committee agendas and packets prior to public meetings of each of the committees as listed above. These can be found under the Government tab on the website banner under INFO SEARCH/Council & Committee Agendas.

This new feature will allow residents to stay apprised of issues as they arise in the Village. Committee meetings are announced via public notice, which appear on the website calendar, Village posting boards (located at the Municipal Building, and on Sagamore, Knoll, Willowbrook and Fair Oaks Drives), or by signing up to receive them via email (see button below). It's easier than ever to stay involved in your Village government! Questions? Comments? Contact Clerk of Council Tammy Reasoner at 531-8675 or at tpreasoner@amberleyvillage.org.
Bike Safety Fair Serves 50+ Neighborhood Children
Officer Andrea Alt and the Amberley Village Police Department recently held the ninth annual installment of the Amberley Village Bike Safety Fair, where more than 50 children were signed up to attend. Each child who registered was fitted for a bike helmet, and an additional 25 helmets were handed out, totaling 75 bike helmets distributed courtesy of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Four new bicycles were raffled, and employees from Hamilton County Safe Communities provided a table with safety messaging. The Mayerson JCC generously provided event space, water bottles, and assisted with set up and planning, and an Amberley Village resident provided the bicycle giveaways, stickers and shaved ice. Volunteers from the Deer Park Veterinary Hospital operated the bike raffle station, and volunteers contributed their time operating the bike course, planning, safety and helmet fittings, as well as overall operations. Thanks to all who made the event an incredible success!
Celebrate National Farmers Market Week
Residents of Amberley Village are fortunate in that our location is nearly an epicenter for summer and autumn Farmers' Markets. We've gathered information on a few of the closest, and included them in this issue of the Amberley e-News to ensure you don't miss out on any of the fresh produce in our area. Celebrate National Farmers Market Week with a visit to one of the many offerings nearby!

Editor's Note: Not listed on any of the compilations links below are two local gems in neighboring communities Pleasant Ridge (Mondays, 4 - 7) and Reading (Fridays, 4 - 7). You can find more information below the photos. Happy -and healthy! - shopping!
National Farmers Market Week is going on this week, but Farmers Markets continue through the fall. Don't miss out on the fresh produce available in our region!
Land Acknowledgement for Indigenous Peoples
Proposed by Human Rights Commission
Fulfilling its charge to combat discrimination, guarantee inclusion, and foster mutual understanding and respect among all persons (Ordinance 2018-4), the Amberley Village Human Rights Commission is recommending that Amberley Village adopt a Land Acknowledgement statement. The linked article below explains the rationale and history behind this recommendation, which is expected to be considered by the Amberley Village Council at its Regular Meeting of Council on October 11.

Overview:
Land Acknowledgement is the recognition of the Native Americans/First Nations/Indigenous Peoples who cared for the lands on which we currently live, work and play prior to their removal. It has been adopted by a number of public and private entities across the country and usually takes the form of a brief statement that might be recited at the beginning of a meeting and/or incorporated into print and online publications.

The linked article, submitted by the Amberley Village Human Rights Commission, outlines background regarding the specific Land Acknowledgment statement recommended for consideration as follows: "As a step toward honoring the truth and achieving healing and reconciliation with those Indigenous Peoples who were affected most by colonization and broken treaties, we acknowledge the traditional Shawnee and Myamia (Miami) lands on which we now stand, and on which the Village of Amberley was built."
Yard Signs in the Village
As we approach political season...
Please remember that yard signs in the Village are discouraged, but permitted for political campaigns and short-term messaging on private property only.

Right-of-way signage is prohibited, and will be removed by Village personnel if not on private property or blocking line of sight, regardless of location.
Amberley Village Human Rights Commission will be distributing signs (pictured left) at this year's Ice Cream Social, along with scheduled dates for display as part of a welcoming campaign this fall. These signs are for scheduled, temporary use at various times throughout the year as designated by the Human Rights Commission, and are in keeping with Village regulations regarding residential signage.

Important Tax Reminders
Questions? Contact Tax Administrator Jenny West at 531-0130 or taxoffice@amberleyvillage.org
  • Extensions are due 10/15/2021.

  • Dropbox is always available and is monitored 24/7.

  • The City of Cincinnati's income tax rate is now 1.8%. This will affect Amberley Village residents working in the city who are accustomed to not owing Amberley Village tax. Residents will continue to receive full credit up to 2%, and those working in Cincinnati will owe the difference between the Amberley Village rate of 2% and the Cincinnati rate of 1.8% on taxable income.

  • If the difference you will owe is greater than $200, please begin making estimated payments for tax year 2021.
Noticing Brown Leaves?
No, fall has not come early. If you've spotted some brown branches and leaves on the trees around Amberley Village, there is no cause for alarm. This is a natural, harmless effect of female cicadas laying their eggs. The trees will recover!

Professional horticulturists recommend maintaining the health of trees with a good watering schedule and mulching around the tree's base. While the loud sounds of the Brood X cicadas are a distant memory, the annual cicada broods will continue to emerge throughout summer.
Community Garden Grows...Well, Community
Amberley Village Community Garden is more than just a designated plot of gardens. It's a community of people sharing their love of gardening and bringing joy to those who walk at Amberley Green.

The photo at left depicts one of many sunflowers growing in the Garden, which also yields tomatoes, lettuce, zucchini, peppers, pumpkin, squash, and many other varieties of vegetables. Many growers have also planted flowers to add color, as well as garden flags and other decorations to help their plot stand out.

The Community Garden is a first-come, first-served resource, open to the public, with preference given to current plot-holders. Advantages include deer fencing, sustainable water, and a chemical-free growing environment. Look for sign-up information in early 2022!

Property Maintenance in the Village
Postcards were recently mailed out to residents regarding the increasing number of Property Maintenance violations, which included a summer checklist of some of the most reported violations throughout the Village. Residents are reminded that the Village requires properties to appear neat and uncluttered when viewed from the street, and in no way present a nuisance or health hazard to neighbors or the public. For complete definitions and details, see the Property Maintenance Code.

Reporting Violations
While direct communication with neighbors is always encouraged, if you observe a poorly kept house or yard, you can also contact the Village Administration via email or call 531-8675, and they will handle it from there. For additional information regarding Amberley Village's Property Maintenance procedures, visit our website.
Central Corridor Pipeline Project
Work on the Central Corridor Pipeline is five months in, with 40% of construction completed. Duke Energy regularly distributes a newsletter to keep municipalities and their residents informed of road closures, construction progress and other key information regarding the project.

Amberley Village COVID-19
& Vaccine Update
Amberley Village was recently recognized by Hamilton County Public Health for its efforts in assisting during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Residents will recall the regular communication regarding changes in policy, as well as two on-site vaccination events which the Village partnered with Hamilton County Public Health to make available to the public.

Amberley continues its commitment to our residents as developments in policy regarding COVID-19 evolve. Please continue reading for updates on the mask policy in indoor public spaces as recommended by CDC guidelines.
CDC Recommends Face Masks in Public Indoor Settings
As mentioned in our last issue of e-News, all public meetings will be held in person after the authority for Ohio local governments to hold virtual public meetings expired on July 1.

Residents are invited to attend public meetings, and masks will now be required for all attendees. While the Municipal Building had only been requiring masks for those not fully vaccinated, both the CDC and Hamilton County Public Health have updated their recommendations due to the county's status change to a "Substantial Transmission" area. This means Hamilton County has seen more than 50 cases per 100,000 population in the past seven days.

Amberley Village will continue its ongoing commitment to following public health protocols as recommended by Hamilton County Public Health and the CDC, as well as its deep cleaning protocols. The Village also continues to provide hand sanitizer throughout the building, and touchless access to restrooms, water fountains and many of its door entries.

Questions or concerns? Please contact the Administration Office at 531-8675.

Amberley Village is committed to keeping lines of communication open and accessible between residents and government officials. In this spirit, Amberley Village has incorporated Village-issued email addresses for Councilmembers into its digital communications protocol.

These measures unify the format, making it easier for residents to send a message when an issue comes to mind. The member's first initial followed by last name (no space) @amberleyvillage.org will get your message on its way to members of the Amberley Village Council.
