In the name of Christ, we embrace all people to be nourished and empowered by the Holy Spirit to love and serve the world.
FROM PETER'S PEN

At a recent Evening Prayer service, we used the prayers for Rogation Days. Traditionally, this is an agricultural festival that involves the whole community and is a time where the parish prays
for good weather, healthy crops, and good harvests.

Wikipedia has a nice article on it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogation_days
Rogation days are days of prayer and fasting in Western Christianity. They are observed with processions and the Litany of the Saints. The so-called major rogation is held on 25 April; the minor rogations are held on Monday to Wednesday preceding Ascension Thursday. The word rogation comes from the Latin verb rogare, meaning "to ask", which reflects the beseeching of God for the appeasement of.....

Basically, the festival we recognize began in France has been around for ~1600 years. The local parish gathers and walks the boundaries of the fields and village, following the parish banners and acolytes with thuribles (incense).

It is a wonderful festival for gathering together, seeing friends, and reconnecting. Apparently, during medieval and renaissance times, this festival got so rowdy that Bishops began asking priests to only invite sober-minded, older men to this festival...

The prayers for Rogation Days are on pages 258 - 259 of our Book of Common Prayer. Even though the celebration is officially past, I encourage you to use these prayers and the ones on pages 827 - 828 throughout the summer and fall and to remember our farmers, especially Todd & Esmee, Miller and Wagner, as they raise and prepare our food.

With Joy,
Peter +

A PRAYER FOR UKRAINE
God of peace and justice,
We pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
That your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
For wisdom, discernment and compassion
To guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,
That you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen.
Archbishop Justin Welby – Archbishop Stephen Cottrell
