LASC would like to extend its condolences to the family and friends of long-time LASC History Instructor Dr. Dontraneil Clayborne, who passed away September 14. 
Dontraneil taught at LASC for 10 years, starting in Fall 2012. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, LASC invites all students, employees, community, and district partners to Lucha Mania @ LASC in the Lakin Center gym. This exciting pro wrestling event will be Friday, Sept. 30. Door open at 5:30 p.m. and bell time is 6 p.m. For students, an LASC Student ID Card and Education Plan is your ticket into all the excitement. Los Angeles Community College District's (LACCD) & African American Outreach Initiative Presents "Welcome Black!" The 3rd annual Student Kickoff event will be October 13 from 2-4 p.m. at Los Angeles Trade Technical College,

The LASC Library Team is back on campus, and has some exciting news. LACCD libraries are consolidating resources and databases. This will provide additional resources for LASC students. During the consolidation process, access to some resources may be temporarily unavailable. All databases - old and new - are on the A-Z List of Library Databases. Join the California Community Colleges from October 17-21 for its sixth Annual Undocumented Student Action Week. The week will feature a series of virtual webinars and on-campus activities to raise awareness about the challenges undocumented students face and will feature solutions that support their educational dreams. The California Student Aid Commission has launched the new Golden State Education and Training Grant Program, supporting Californians who lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its ramifications. Eligible students may be awarded a one-time grant of $2,500 for reskilling, up-skilling, and accessing educational programs to get back into the workforce. Read more.

For over 20 years, the Say The Word event at LASC has been a showcase for emerging poets and writers, spotlighting not only students and faculty, but individuals from the surrounding community. The event's organizers are holding workshops designed to support writing and performance in preparation for the Say The Word event on November 9. These workshops will provide valuable feedback on your creative writing. Read more.
LASC's Office of Outreach and Recruitment has new employment opportunities in its office as it is hiring 36 student workers. The hourly rate is $15 per hour for 25 hours per week. Qualified students should be currently receiving financial aid and be eligible for the federal work-study program. LASC's Trio Scholars Program is a federally funded student support services program designed to help students graduate and transfer to four-year institutions. The program's goal is to assist students in obtaining their Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees and transfer to a four-year college/university of their choice. Read more.
LASC's federally funded TRIO Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) program has successfully assisted students in completing a STEM or STEM-affiliated major for almost 13 years. The office offers personalized counseling services and designs comprehensive educational plans to assist with an associate degree and better prepare for transferring to a 4-year college or university in a STEM major. Read more.
LASC successfully submitted its Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER) to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges on August 1. Join Accreditation team members at the Accreditation Roundtable to hear more about the college's ISER process, identified areas of excellence and areas of concern, the quality focus essay, and an opportunity for questions and answers. This Fall, LACCD Academic Senate Professional Development College continues its collaboration with the LACCD Sustainable Environment Institute, and invites you to participate in a series of discussions about climate politics on Thursday, September 22, aridity and water on October 20 and climate anxiety on November 10. The center's dedicated staff is available to support student learning and achievement in a student-centered environment. Individual and group tutoring is available. Free Metro bus passes are available to LASC Students. This includes unlimited free rides on Metro bus and rail. Pick up yours from LASC's Bookstore in the Student Services Building on Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well as at LASC's Business Office in the Student Services Building, Room 103, on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Do you need a hotspot? If so, the Los Angeles Public Library's Hyde Park Branch has a Tech2go program that includes hotspots. Read more. You have to have a Library Card, though.
