Eastertide
or The Great Fifty Days

In the Episcopal Church we celebrate Easter for 50 days, from Easter Sunday through Pentecost. Fifty days because Jesus spent 40 days on earth before he ascended to heaven and then there were 10 days after that til the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Church.

We celebrate the Resurrection and "Feast" for 50 days. In the greater society Easter is over on Easter Day, but for us as Christians the celebration of the Resurrection is just beginning. During The Great Fifty Days we hear and ponder the Scriptural stories of Jesus' resurrection appearances and ready ourselves for a new filling of the Church with the Holy Spirit for our own time and for our own ministries.

During the Great Fifty Days the choir will sing at most Sunday Eucharistic Services and we will be using the Rite II, Prayer D, Eucharistic Liturgy from The Book of Common Prayer. This liturgy is adapted from the Liturgy of St. Basil, which is generally dated to the time of Basil the Great who died in 379. Its current form was developed to be used across a wide number of denominations including Methodists, Lutherans, Roman Catholics, and Anglicans. There is something to the idea of praying in a form used across the centuries and across denominations as we celebrate the core of the Christian faith, Christ's resurrection, for The Great Fifty Days.

Special Easter Offering
NEW LIFE FAMILY MISSION

This year's special Easter Offering is being earmarked for The New Life Mission, at 4th and Henry in Hamilton. The Mission provides a variety of services that help those experiencing poverty and homelessness, including meals, a food pantry, and on-site engagement with a variety of social services, including medical, mental health, addiction, housing, and benefit services. The Mission is one of the partners of the Hamilton Pastors' Homelessness and Poverty Group that meets at Trinity to provide a network of services and advocacy across Hamilton for those in need. The Mission has served a significant role in providing help and care for a number of our own parishioners.

The Mission's Annual Fund Raiser is scheduled for Thursday, May 12th, at the Hamilton Marriott. We hope to raise enough through Trinity's Easter Offering, $600, to sponsor a table at this gathering. The speaker will be Bruce Deel who ministers to the marginalized and impoverished in Atlanta. In ministering he offers radical trust to those in need. His ministry started with instructions to close a church in Atlanta, but ended up as a ministry that occupies nine acres in the Atlanta area serving those in need. We would like those who serve in Trinity's Clothes Closet, and others from our parish, to have the opportunity to hear Bruce speak.

"Prepare Ye
the Way of the Lord"
-- John Webb
(Music Director)

Passion Week is here. It is one of the busiest weeks of the year for the Church, but also such an important one for us. On Sunday, you may have sung along with us “Prepare ye the way of the Lord,” as we processed from the Memorial Garden into the Sanctuary with the palms. In Advent and on Palm Sunday, we sing songs about preparing the Way of the Lord – one in anticipation of Jesus coming to earth as a baby, and the other as part of Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem with the anticipation of what will occur later in the week to fulfill prophecy.

I took the liberty of doing something different this year on Palm Sunday by using “Prepare ye the way of the Lord” from the musical Godspell (with handbells) during our Palm Sunday Procession. Godspell was first conceived in 1970 from an idea of John-Michael Tebelak. It is based on the Gospels and recreates the texts of the parables into a play. It first premiered in December of 1970. In 1971, it was transformed by Stephen Schwartz to what we know today. The purpose was to make God more relevant for today. Isn’t this the purpose of the Church? ... to make God more relevant to everyone?

Frank Martin Funeral & Burial

Forty-four people from across Hamilton
and from numerous faith and service communities
gathered on Palm Sunday, April 10, at 2:00 PM,
for Frank's Funeral and Burial.
Lovely testimonials and remembrances
were shared by about a dozen persons
in the context of our traditional Episcopal Burial Liturgy.
There were many more
who we know could not attend the service.

Thank you to everyone
who helped give Frank a loving send-off
and ministered to his sister Kathy.

Special thanks to the Altar Guild
who did their special magic
of changing the Holy Week Red Altar Vestments
to the Burial White Altar Vestments and back again
(always especially labor intensive during Lent
when all crosses are covered)
and to the ECW (Episcopal Church Women)
who provided refreshments.

After Frank's Burial in the Memorial Garden, we gathered in the Memorial Room to share more stories about Frank
and his life and death with one another and
with Frank's sister, Kathy.

Raise Money
for the Clothes Closet
through the
2022 Flying Pig Marathon

I (Chrissy Rose) am raising money to help with Trinity's Clothes Closet, a FREE clothing pantry. We help those who are low income, homeless, refugees and anyone else in need. We work hard to provide a welcoming and safe space where customers feel comfortable. Whether shopping for day to day outfits or a nice suit for a job interview, we are here to help!

I am honored to help out with such a wonderful ministry. I want to help to better organize the clothing by adding shelving and storage containers. I hope to also, get new clothing racks and replace aging tables. Trinity Episcopal Church in Hamilton, Ohio, has become the biggest blessing in my life. They have loved and excepted me completely! They have taught me that God LOVES me. NO exceptions! Please help me show my love back to them and to the community I love.
Thank you. -- Chrissy

Collect: Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord's resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
