Schedules available on Ascender Friday evening

High School schedule pickup is Monday afternoon between 4 pm and 6 pm. High School student schedules will be available on Ascender Friday evening (if you don’t know how to log into Ascender, see here).

If it appears that there are errors in a student’s schedule, please complete the High School Schedule Change Request form. If you can complete this form before High School Schedule Walkthrough on Monday, so much the better!
High school schedule walkthrough Monday, August 9 from 4 pm to 6 pm

Students can access their schedule through Ascender starting Friday evening (see above), and on Monday they will have an opportunity to come on campus and see where their classes are. Teachers will also be on campus working in their classrooms, so you can meet them as well! We will only hand out paper schedules to those who cannot view them on Ascender, so please try to access your schedule on Ascender, first!

Additionally:

  • Counselors will be available for schedule questions.
  • Parents and guardians can come pick up car tags for use on the first day of school! Our fabulous ViP will be laminating car tags for families in exchange for donations. Carline maps will be posted for you to study to make sure you understand our drop/off and pick up procedures.
  • Note: If you cannot attend this event on Monday night, you are invited to stop by the office to pick up your car tag between 8 am – 4 pm on Friday, Aug 6 or Monday, Aug 9.
  • Letter jackets will be available for pickup in the high school office, for those who ordered them.
  • Student drivers will see Assistant Principal Stela Holcombe for their parking sticker. Look for an email from Mrs. Holcombe over the weekend with more information on this!

To avoid overcrowding, we ask that you sign up for a slot at the time you plan to attend. Please sign up here: High School Schedule Pickup Time Slot Signup
Attention Seniors! Save the date for senior parking space painting event

Seniors are invited to paint their parking spaces on Sunday, August 22 from 4 pm to 8 pm. Holcombe will send more information to you via email. There is a specific kind of paint you need to buy, so please wait for further information. Seniors who don’t drive are invited to come hang out and/or help a friend! Parents/guardians who want to help their senior are welcome, of course!
Carline: First day tips and procedures

Please expect the first day of carline to take far longer than other days.  *Note that the street signs have been removed from the I-35 Service Road intersection with both Paloma and Jeffrey. Use GPS if you're not familiar with those turns.*

In the morning, kindergarten parents and some first grade parents will be walking their children into the building, which tends to complicate carline. If you are only dropping off secondary students, if possible the first week, please arrive after 8 am. Student drivers are being asked to arrive after 8:15 am, as we will be very short on parking until after kindergarten parents have left.

In the afternoon on Tuesday, please wait until 4:15 pm to pickup, if possible. This will save you a long wait in line, although if this year is anything like the first day of previous years, carline will still continue until after 4:30.

As drivers learn the carline procedures, and as we troubleshoot and tweak, in the past we have been successful in decreasing wait times substantially by the second week of school. But the first day is always a challenge!
Additional important carline information

While in carline, safety remains our number one priority. Use of cell phones and other hand held devices is prohibited in carline. This is just a matter of Meridian safety practice: state law prohibits the use of hand held devices on school property in vehicles that are not parked.

Carline maps have changed a bit, so please check to make sure you know your proper carline.

Morning ARRIVAL:

  • If you are dropping off primary students, you can use the YELLOW or GREEN lanes. Primary students may not be dropped off in the BLUE lane.
  • If you are dropping off middle and/or high school students (no primary siblings), you may use ANY lane to drop off in the morning.

Afternoon DISMISSAL - Families WITH primary “waiter” siblings:

  • If you have children in middle school with primary waiters (no high school siblings), you will pick up in the BLUE lane. *
  • If you have children in middle school and high school with primary waiters, you will pick up in the GREEN lane. *
  • If you have children in high school with primary waiters (no middle school siblings), you will also pick up in the GREEN lane. *

Afternoon DISMISSAL - Families WITHOUT primary “waiter” siblings:

  • If your children are only in middle school (no primary or high school siblings), you will pick up in the ORANGE lane. *
  • If your middle school children have a high school sibling (no primary siblings), you will also pick up in the GREEN lane. *
  • If your children are only in high school (no primary or middle school siblings), you will pick up in the GREEN lane. *

*The links below have our color maps for both AM and PM procedures:

It's probably a good idea to identify your lane and drive the course before the first day of school. Arrows are painted on the parking lot to help guide you.

We understand this may all sound a little confusing at first, but it's necessary to balance the lines and get parents and students in the same place each afternoon. Carline is likely to run a little slow for the first week while families get used to the traffic patterns, but it will be a well-oiled machine in no time!
Parking

Please do not park in any numbered spaces between the hours of 7:30 am and 4 pm. These numbered spaces are reserved for our faculty and staff or for our students. Avoid leaving vehicles unattended in the red painted fire lanes as well. The spaces on the south side of the main lot may be parked in after 7:30 am, and the unmarked spaces on the north side of the main lot may be parked in at any time. Unmarked spaces in the high school lot (I-35 side) may be parked in if you have business in the high school office.

Holidays and Holy Days

Aug 9: Al-Hijra, Islamic New Year
The new year on the Islamic calendar, known as Al-Hijra or Muharram (Muharram being the first month in the Islamic calendar), marks the date of Muhammad’s departure from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE, known as the Hijra and marking year 1 on the Islamic calendar.

According to the “Religions” page of the BBC website, unlike important Muslim holy days such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, Al-Hijra is a low-key day with no required religious observances. Many Muslims view the date as a time to reflect upon the Hijra and the coming year.
