"Gnome" Emergency Fund
Gnome emergency funds can be accessed by ACPS counselors/family support workers to fill gaps in community resources by submitting a help request on behalf of their families thru our website.

FHF believes that every child deserves a great teacher! So, we're partnering with parent groups to ensure that all Albemarle County Public School teachers are celebrated during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 2-6).

THIS MONTH
Governor Glenn Youngkin has designated April 2022 as the Month of the Military Child.

Frequent moves, family separations through deployments, and reintegration following deployments can make school, home, and community life challenging for military children. Yet, even in such circumstances, these students continually demonstrate resilience and perseverance.

Their contributions to schools and communities also include unique and valuable perspectives on learning, friendships, and growing up to assist schools in planning for Month of the Military Child celebrations, the VDOE developed resources that are available on VDOE's Military Families webpage.

The VDOE encourages schools to use these materials and ideas while planning Month of the Military Child activities throughout April.

The VDOE also encourages schools to share their “Purple Up!” and “Month of the Military Child” photos by using the hashtag #PurpleUpVirginia and tag @VDOE_SESS. Photos and/or descriptions of the activities can also be sent to Dan Dunham, VDOE Military Student and Family Specialist, for sharing with the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children.

FHF Invites You To Donate
"We say we're a village, but a lot of us don't even know our neighbors. FHF can help make those relationships visible and effective," said Emily Holmstrom, Agnor-Hurt counselor.

“In the coming year, we’re hoping to raise even more funds to be able to meet an increasing number of requests for emergency needs,” said FHF co-organizer Amanda Alger. “Mental health and transportation are two key needs that come up again and again.”

FHF's fund is managed by the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation. Donations are tax-deductible.
