Dear Family and Friends of South Cove Manor:
I am writing today with several new regulations that have been initiated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) in response to increased COVID-19 cases. Please understand that we have just learned about these regulations within the past two hours, and our processes for dealing with these regulation changes will continue to evolve over the next few days. Please pay close attention to the highlighted item, as it relates directly to visitors to our building. Our staff will be required to enforce these regulations. Please understand that they are merely doing their jobs and that neither they nor the leadership of South Cove Manor have any control over these mandates.
Mandated Vaccine for Long Term Care workers: DPH has issued a mandate stating that all staff of nursing homes in Massachusetts will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of October 10, 2021. This mandate will have little impact on South Cove staff members, as nearly 98% of our staff have already been vaccinated. The remaining 4 staff members will be subject to this mandate.
Surveillance Testing of staff: All staff members (regardless of vaccination status) will now be required to be tested on a weekly basis beginning on August 12, 2021. For the past several months, only those staff that were not fully vaccinated were subject to this weekly testing requirement.
Newly Admitted residents that are not fully vaccinated: must now quarantine in a private room, or in a room with another resident who has recovered within the previous three months.
Eye Protection: Staff must wear eye protection when providing care for residents.
Visitation: ALL visitors to long-term care facilities must now wear masks during indoor visitation at ALL times, regardless of vaccination status.
I am certain that I will be in touch with all of you again over the next several days to discuss how these regulation changes will affect daily life at South Cove.
Thank you again for placing your trust in South Cove Manor.
