What's Happening at the Capitol?

The First Annual Session of the One Hundred Thirteenth General Assembly of the State of Tennessee is in full swing.

In the Senate, our bill filing deadline was February 2nd, and our office filed about 35 bills that we plan to bring forward! I am looking forward to working alongside my fellow legislators in bringing updated policies for consideration.

February 3rd was National Wear Red Day 2023. This annual event exists to spread awareness for women and heart disease. We captured the photo to the left before adjourning for the week, hoping to encourage others to support the cause.

State of the State

On February 6th, Governor Bill Lee presented his fifth State of the State Address . Highlighting the administration's proposed budget, the Governor shared his vision for our state. It was an excellent presentation that highlighted many areas of concern for Tennesseans and discussed how we will approach them in a thoughtful and conservative manner. I specifically enjoyed hearing about his plans to support children and families across our state.

Nashville P.R.O.P.E.L Visit

Nashville Parents Requiring Our Public Education System to Lead (P.R.O.P.E.L) and I met on Tuesday, February 7th. We discussed the importance of education, and some of the issues parents and students are facing. I was glad to listen to parents express their concerns and talk about ways to better education for the children in our state.

Constituent Visits

Tennesse Central Economic Authority came to share a presentation on Monday, February 6th. During the discussion, Director Charly Lyons

shared a bit about how TCEA is serving communities in our region, and he gave the upcoming projects they have planned.

The Sumner Prevention Coalition visited as a part of a Day on the Hill on Tuesday, February 7th. We met and briefly discussed the importance of substance misuse prevention and how we can work together to address those issues in Sumner County.

Sumner County Farm Bureau also came to visit during Farm Bureau Day on the Hill on Tuesday, the 7th. I enjoyed catching up with members of the local chapter. We spent time discussing protection of farmland as well as other important farm-related issues.

Pastor James Johnson came by the office on Wednesday, February 8th. I am grateful for the time we spent together in prayer for the General Assembly, District 18, and the State of Tennessee. I ask that you join us in prayer for strength as I serve Tennessee.

Leadership Sumner came to Capitol Hill on Wednesday, February 8th. I, along with my fellow Sumner County delegation members, met with them to discuss some issues that are important to our community, including education, civic engagement, and housing.

Constituent Spotlight!

This week, I wanted to highlight Jane and David Wright! Jane is a leader among the Sumner County Preservationists, and she chaired the Friends of the Bridal House board. She provides exemplary leadership in furnishing, caring for, and promoting this unique early 1800s Sumner County treasure.

Her husband, David, is an accomplished artist with many paintings which are nationally recognized! He is heading up a project to establish a particular long rifle as an official state of Tennessee gun.

This dynamic husband and wife duo has done fantastic work in preserving and promoting the history of Sumner County.
