Welding, warming and teaching the BCCSA’s Silica Control Tool® some new tricks
Happy Canada Day to all our members!
We’d like to thank everyone for coming out to three important events last month.
The Alliance welcomed 85 attendees to a free breakfast session on Recovery Informed Workplaces on June 13th. The session featured two speakers who embrace work environments that destigmatize mental health and dependency issues to support a journey of recovery. Dr. Paul Farnan of the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University shared insights into the ways in which workplaces can become catalysts for positive change and healing. Ian Robb, Chairman, Building Trades of Alberta, highlighted the success of its unique Building Resiliency Program, which addresses mental health, addiction and dependency challenges with workplace support.
Eat & Greet Prince George welcomed 50 attendees on June 19th. These events provide an excellent opportunity to network and to speak with members of the BCCSA's executive team and board of directors. Look here for announcements about future BCCSA Eat & Greets in your area.
On June 27th, the BCCSA presented a well-attended free webinar, Controlling Exposure to Welding Gases and Fumes in Construction. Four speakers discussed new welding guidance materials and best practices for managing exposure risks associated with welding.
Looking for information on helping workers beat the summer heat? The BCCSA offers all the resources you need to conduct a toolbox talk on heat stress with your crews.
The BCCSA’s Silica Control Tool® (SCT) was designed to adapt to new environments. The Office of the Chief Inspector of Mines has recently launched the Mining Silica Control Tool® for workers who produce sand, gravel, and construction aggregate materials. Look for more in-depth information on this new product in the August newsletter.

As always, we welcome your feedback!
