Dear Raider Families,
Exciting things are happening in McCulloch classrooms every day as teachers design engaging instruction and students explore and connect with new interests and new friends. Thank you for continuing to support your student's school readiness and academic success through building success skills and habits: regular school attendance, daily independent reading, disciplined study habits.
At the same time, April can feel like the longest month of the school year, and you may be hearing from your student about the struggles to maintain focus and interest and challenges with friendships. We see the end of the school year approaching, but this time of year calls on all of our resilience and grit. How can you support your student through these ups and downs?
Do: Listen to your child and give them a voice. Be curious when they share. Role play social or academic situations to help them practice and problem solve. This will help them build their confidence and problem-solving skills.
Don't: Rescue or fix problems for your child or blame others. This takes power and control away from your student to solve their own problems. Sometimes our questions sound like accusations with a question mark at the end. Instead of "why did you do that?" try "how did that work? What else could you try?"
Connect with your student's teachers and school counselor if you have any concerns about school progress. Let's continue to work together to raise healthy and happy children.
Go Raiders!

Instruction is scheduled to occur on all campuses between April 22 and May 10.
