Tai Tokerau Trades Training Newsletter
Nau mai, haere mai, whakatau mai
Tai Tokerau Trades Training is proud to announce our partnership with United Civil Construction as one of our inaugural Corporate EEB Champions.
Tai Tokerau Trades Training turns one!
Our Education to Employment Brokerage Service programme (EEB) has been running for a whole year now, can you believe it? We started this programme the day after the 2020 lockdown began, and our team had to quickly adapt to the challenges of building relationships and learning their roles while working in the virtual space. We’re incredibly proud of how our team has risen to the challenges brought on by Covid-19, especially in our formative first few months.

Tai Tokerau Trades Training now runs multiple contracts, and we have an entire team of 16 staff plus contractors. However, we will always be incredibly proud of our EEB programme and our team who connect students, schools and industry.
To celebrate our one-year milestone, we hosted our first-year celebration last month at our Whangarei premises to celebrate and thank those people and organisations that have supported us on our journey so far.

Thank you to all those who attended. We also thank those who weren’t able to make it but have been there for the past year (or longer!) supporting our mahi.

Tai Tokerau Trades Training wouldn’t be where we are without the aroha and tautoko from our community and industry.
We want to extend a BIG thank you to Eleanor and her team at Nourish Lunchbar for the delicious catering. We received many comments on how good the food was, and we have to say we wholeheartedly agree.

Once again, thank you to all our stakeholders far and wide, we thank you for the fantastic support, ngā mihi.

Tōkihi Ki Tua & Te Tai Tokerau Festival 2021
Te Kura Kaupapa o Kaikohe, Te Rangi Āniwaniwa and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rāwhitiroa all delivered superb performances. They will capably represent Te Tai Tokerau in the national championship.

We especially acknowledge all ngā kaiako, kura, whanau, whānui across our region who supported our young people through this journey, ngā mihi nui kia koutou.

Careerforce Youth in Health and Wellbeing
Our Vocational Coordinator, Mano Thompson, presented his remarkable journey at the Careerforce 'Youth in Health & Wellbeing' events as a keynote speaker at Tikipunga High School and Taipa Area School.

Over 120 students and schools staff attended the 'Youth in Health & Wellbeing' events, where young people engaged in various interactive activities delivered by local health providers and industry specialists.
Students explored a wide range of career pathways in the health sector, such as paramedics, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and much more amazing careers. Many students were motivated, inspired and confident to pursue a career pathway in health and wellbeing.

Many thanks to Julie Purcell, Dara Davenport, Careersforce, and local industries for supporting the development of our taitamariki across Te Tai Tokerau in health and wellbeing career pathways.
Whangarei Marine Tour
In May, NZ Marine & Composites proudly delivered the NZ Marine Tour in Whangarei, showcasing our local marine industries. Our team and attending school staff were incredibly inspired and amazed by the site visits of our local maritime industries and the wealth of knowledge of career opportunities available.
The team visited Circa Marine and walked through the "start to finish process" of building, servicing and launching multimillion-dollar vessels in Northland. They met all the talented and skilled tradespeople who specialises in high-end upholstery and exquisite joinery.

The marine industry in Northland is thriving, and most of the local businesses expressed the positive economic effect since COVID-19 began. These notable businesses are very eager to develop the future generation of marine tradespeople, and it was also amazing to see many great diverse opportunities within the marine industry.

If you or your students are interested in hearing more about the marine industry, please contact Tracey Eaton at NZ Marine and Composites Industry Training Organisation.

Pathways Presentation
Over the past few weeks, our team have been busy buzzing around the region, delivering the Pathways Presentation to over 160 students across various schools.

Our presentation helps to motivate young people to navigate and explore their future career pathway.

Here's what our taitamariki had to say...
“I like how the speaker presented his slides and how he told us his story and it inspired me to be successful”

“It was enjoyable and interesting”

“It was fun to listen to his story!”

“I love how he did the impossible”
“I had enjoyed how he didn't give up and always had a positive mindset all the time even through troubled times in his life”

“All of it was cool to learn about”

“I enjoyed the way he was explaining things, it was clear and easy to listen to”

“All round good and entertaining presentation, good job”

"I enjoyed the personal stories and the colours"
We are grateful to share this journey with you all, and it's great to hear your feedback. If you would like to book your school for a Pathways Presentation, please contact your dedicated Vocational Coordinator.

Thank you to those that have already expressed an interest in attending the e2e Te Tai Tokerau Teachers Only Day 4 June at Okaihau College, 9.30 am – 2.00 pm.

This day will provide teachers with the opportunity to meet with at least six different industries in small groups and learn about what the industries do and how students can pathway into these industries. It also provides teachers with connections to contextualise their subject teaching.
