Paid Summer Internship Opportunity:

Civic Changemakers

Spend your summer working with middle school students and helping them create a project that impacts their community.


The Civic Changemakers program works with students in DC Public Schools to make meaningful change in their communities through a five week summer program offered in DC Middle Schools.




Interns receive 3 weeks of paid training at the start of the internship which runs from June 12th-August 5th 2023. Apply by February 22.

Service Showcase Presentation Opportunity 

The CSL's Service Showcase is on April 20!


The annual Service Showcase and Celebration recognizes a year of service and community-engaged work at KU.


The Service Showcase is an opportunity for students to share their service projects and experiences with the University community and Lawrence community partners.


If you've been participating in service through a course, student organization, or on your own, we encourage you to submit a proposal for the Service Showcase presentation opportunity!


Submit a presentation proposal by April 6!

Student Org Spotlight: 

LEAD UP

LEAD UP (Leadership Education Adolescent Development with Unlimited Potential) is a student organization working with high school youth from racial and ethnic minorities to attain college education.



Participants are mainly from KC, but some are from other parts of USA like California, South Dakota and Texas. Participating youth are typically first-generation college aspirants and need help with college preparedness.


The LEAD UP program has several components, but one of them is mentoring or tutoring high school youth one-one to become ready for college.

Community Partner Spotlight: 

Center for Supportive Communities

The Center for Supportive Communities (CSC) is looking for skilled college students to work directly with elementary, middle, and high school students participating in SupportED, a community-based, behavioral diversion program for truant children and youth in Douglas County, Kansas.


SupportED Mentors use functional mentoring, implement behavioral interventions, and work alongside families and schools in a collaborative effort to divert children from the legal system. CSC’s supportive and scientific approach cultivates healthy youth development and sustainable behavior change so all young people have equal opportunities to live fulfilling lives.


Position Dates: January – May 2023


Time Requirements: You can choose to dedicate 5, 10, 15, or 20 hours each week.

Service Learning Opportunity: 

Certificate in Service Learning

We invite you to consider earning a Certificate in Service LearningDuring the 2021-2022 academic year, 57 students were awarded a certificate in Service Learning. Obtaining your certificate involves taking classes, engaging in volunteer work, and reflecting on your service learning experiences. Once you have earned the certificate, it is acknowledged on your official academic transcript. 


There are a multiple steps to complete the Certificate in Service Learningmake sure you visit our website to learn more about where you are in the process or where to start if you are just beginning! The deadline to apply to graduate from a certificate in any semester can be found on the Office of the University Registrar's calendar as "Undergraduate Application for Graduation Deadline."


You can apply to graduate from the Certificate program as soon as all of the requirements are completed, even if that is before you graduate from KU!

completion of the Certificate in Service Learning, please email our Certificate Coordinator at serve@ku.edu.
