Cary Library To Open Tuesday, April 27
Cary Library will be open for browsing, checking out materials, and picking up, holding, and purchasing books from the Friends' Book Store beginning on Tuesday, April 27.

There will be no seating, study rooms or meeting rooms available, and you will not be able to use the Library computers or printers.

COVID-19 Vaccine Update, Week of April 19-23
People age 16 + who live, work, or study in Massachusetts can be now be vaccinated.

Pre-Register or Sign-Up for an Appointment

  • Preregister at VaccineSignUp.mass.gov to be notified when it's your turn to schedule an appointment at one of 7 mass vaccination locations: Hynes Convention Center, Gillette Stadium, Reggie Lewis Center, DoubleTree Hotel in Danvers, Eastfield Mall in Springfield, Natick Mall and former Circuit City in Dartmouth.

  • Use VaxFinder.mass.gov to search for appointments at pharmacies, health care providers, and other community locations
Center Streetscape Community Information Meeting May 5
The Center Streetscape Project is anticipated to begin in mid-late May. Over the next two construction seasons, the project will make improvements to safety, accessibility, landscaping, and more.

As we gear up for the start of construction, we're holding a community information session to present the latest information available to us, and to answer questions about the project. We'll cover topics including the construction schedule, parking/traffic, ways to stay informed during the project, and contact information in case you have questions in the
future.

Winners of Minuteman Cane, Outstanding Youth, and White Tricorn Hat Awards
With Patriots Day virtual this year, we missed the ceremony where some important awards are handed out. The Minuteman Cane, Outstanding Youth, and White Tricorn Hat Awards were delivered to this year's winners.

The Outstanding Youth of Lexington Award was presented to Peyton Campbell at her home by Select Board member Suzie Barry. Read more about the 2021 Outstanding Youth Award winner.
The Minuteman Cane Award was presented to Carolyn Wortman by Marie Hill at the Lexington Food Pantry as several volunteers looked on. Read more about the 2021 Minuteman Cane Award winner.
Lester Savage is the 2021 recipient of the Lexington Lions Club White Tricorn Hat Award. The award was presented by club president Paula Rizzo-Riley. Town Manager Appoints Michael McLean as Interim Police Chief
Following the retirement of Chief Mark Corr, Town Manager Jim Malloy has named Michael McLean, current Captain of Operations, as Interim Police Chief of the Lexington Police Department. McLean has served as Captain of Operations for the Department since 2015. He will serve as Interim Chief while the Town conducts a nationwide search for a permanent replacement.

“I am extremely honored to serve as Interim Chief of the Lexington Police Department,” said Interim Chief McLean. “It is an honor to have the opportunity to lead a department of professional staff who are dedicated to the fair and equitable treatment of everyone in Lexington. We are fortunate to serve a well-informed and engaged community, and I am committed to keeping an open dialogue between the Department and the community,” he added.

“I’m looking forward to working with Interim Chief McLean as we look to the future of the Lexington Police Department,” said Town Manager Jim Malloy. “His extensive experience in policing, and his familiarity with our community, makes him well-qualified to lead the Department,” he added.

Traffic Detours Resume on Adams Street Beginning April 26
The Town of Burlington performed water main improvements last year on Adams Street, right on the Lexington town line. Water main improvements will resume in the same area starting Monday, April 26. 

Adams Street will be closed between Lowell Street and North Street during work hours, which are anticipated to be 7:00AM - 5:00PM. 

Detours will be in place. Please seek alternate routes if possible. 

The work is expected to take 2-3 weeks.
Wood Street MBTA Bus Stop Improvements Public Meeting April 28
The Town's Transportation Safety Group and the MBTA are hosting a public meeting to discuss proposed accessibility improvements to MBTA bus stops on Wood Street.

April 28, 2021 at 7:30 PM 

New crosswalks are proposed, and some existing crosswalks will be improved for better safety and accessibility. Some stops are being moved slightly for better visibility. Two stops are being eliminated.

Concord and Lexington Awarded Local Travel and Tourism Grant
In partnership with the Town of Concord, the Town of Lexington was recently awarded a Local Travel and Tourism grant by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT).

Lexington and Concord’s grant will allow the two communities to implement a targeted, regional marketing plan. “Two Historic Towns; One Memorable Trip” will utilize print media, digital media, and social media to engage with potential travelers across the region. 

The Travel and Tourism Recovery Grant Program intends to strengthen the economy of Massachusetts through the development and enhancement of the state’s tourism industry. These funds are dedicated to marketing projects that support the My Local MA campaign, enhance tourism recovery and have the potential to increase non-resident visitation.

'Nibbling on Natives in Your Back Yard and Beyond' with Russ Cohen; Virtual Event April 29
Join Russ Cohen, expert forager and author of Wild Plants I Have Known…and Eaten, for a 60-minute slide show featuring at least two dozen species of native edible wild plants suitable for adding to your own landscape, or nibbling on as you encounter them in other locales.

Stone Building Reuse - Community Forums on April 29 (morning and evening sessions)
The Stone Building Feasibility/Re-Use Committee (ad hoc) is seeking input on creative reuse ideas for the Stone Building, located at 735 Massachusetts Ave. This is the first of three forums to hear from the community on their vision for what the Stone Building could look like.  

You can submit your thoughts in advance, if you'd like, by emailing the Committee by April 28.

Stone Building Forum 1 “Visions for the Future of the Stone Building” will focus on:

  • Reviewing key objectives of the Stone Building Reuse Committee’s charter
  • Providing a brief overview of the history of the Stone Building (former East Branch Library next to Follen Church)
  • Inviting community members’ input on visions for the future of the Stone Building
