THE MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS KAREKIN II THE CATHOLICOS OF ALL ARMENIANS 

ON THE FEAST OF THE HOLY RESURRECTION OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST 

(Yerevan, St. Gregory the Enlightener Cathedral, 31 March, 2024)

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. 

«We praise and glorify your holy, 

marvelous, and victorious resurrection»

(Prayerbook): 

Dear faithful, 

Today, the good tidings of the glorious Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ resound from the sacred altars of our churches. The wondrous tidings fill our hearts, burdened with the pains and losses of our motherland and national life, with hope and spiritual renewal. Life has triumphed, death has been defeated and trampled. With faith and trust in God, let us together bless the Lord in the words of the Prayerbook: 'We praise and glorify your holy, marvelous, and victorious Resurrection.’

Through his Resurrection, Christ has liberated humanity from the tyranny of evil. He has shown the path of forgiveness and love, reconciled humanity with God, and bestowed the hope and grace of eternal life. By the mercy of the Son of God, the dawn of life has spread over the darkness of death. The life-giving cross, upon which the holy blood of the Lord was shed, has become a sign of victory over death. And the faith in resurrection has become heavenly power for defeating evil.

Indeed, dearly beloved, the Resurrection of Christ is victorious,holy, and glorious. With the world's ever-changing circumstances, and particularly amidst the complex situations and hardships, the faithful are empowered by the graces of the Resurrection to overcome trials, reject destructive currents, disastrous thoughts and deeds, to withstand the calamities of catastrophic wars, and to be renewed in the Lord, as the Scripture testifies: 'If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation' (2 Corinthians 5:17). 

Today also, the call resounds for entire humanity: to follow the God-given commandments, to achieve victory of life in the face of death, to be the unwavering defender of truth and justice, and to transform the bleak existence without God into a resurrected life in the Lord.

Responding to this call, united through the sacred vow "for the sake of faith, for the sake of motherland" we have endured numerous difficulties and trials throughout history. The testament of our faith in Resurrection, today as well, serves as a proclamation of our people's belief and commitment to sacred national values, which for centuries have been the guarantee of Armenian identity and existence, fostering the advancement of education and science. It is necessary to educate generations instilled with such values and to keep intact and undamaged the legacy and heritage of our ancestors which have enriched the cultural and scientific treasury of humanity. 

Dear faithful in Armenia and the Diaspora, the holy and glorious Resurrection of the Lord is strengthening encouragement for us all to confront the challenges of our country with hope and bravery, especially in this difficult post-war period, when Artsakh remains occupied and depopulated, and Azerbaijan persists in its expansionist and provocative actions with new demands, posing immediate threats to our state's security. 

The humiliations inflicted upon the kidnapped political leadership of Artsakh and our illegally kept sons continue to be conducted through criminal actions. Similarly, there is an overt policy of neglecting the rights of Artsakh Armenians and usurping and destroying the Armenian spiritual and cultural heritage in Artsakh.

In the face of these reprehensible realities, it is the noble duty of our people to overcome internal disagreements and disunity, to heal the wounds of our nation, which has suffered heavy losses, and to strengthen the motherland through joint efforts.

Indeed, the resurrected life begins with the determination to live according to the teachings of Christ, and by taking the initial step from disasters and sufferings towards life-renewing achievements. Such mindset, such spirit must be kept unshaken within us, and we shall refuse to succumb to the trials that beset us, we shall not act with the mentality of a defeated, and we shall not turn into a discouraged and weak nation, thus endangering the future of our homeland and independent statehood.

Our journey does not conclude at the sites of martyrdom where our heroes and brave men rest, nor at the graves left behind in Artsakh. The grave dug for us by the forces of evil will forever remain empty, for we are a people who conquer tribulations through Christ, emerging from every Golgotha with faith in Resurrection. Indeed, the verdict on our future does not belong to darkness and death, but to life and resurrection. 

Together with God, through strong faith and unshaken will and spirit, not only individuals, but also nations and statescan rise. In the current challenging conditions for our people, it is vital and imperative to strengthen our country, it is crucial to  live and act with unwavering patriotism and dedication to nation. With such determination, we would be able to shape new horizons in our history and the revival of the dignified life for our state, nation, and church. The proclamation of the Apostle shall turn into such reality also for our nation, 'Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?' (1 Corinthians 15:55). Therefore, let us keep bright in our hearts, through the resurrected Christ our faith, hope, love, and positive expectation for the future. 

God calls us to resurrection; hence, let us cast away fear and despair, rid ourselves of hatred and enmity, and eliminate deeds like the ones of Pilate and Judah. Let us gaze upon the resurrected Savior and walk solely in the victorious path of the resurrection. 

With these wishes and the good news of the Holy Resurrection, we greet the incumbents of our hierarchical sees of our Holy Church: His Holiness Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia, His Beatitude Archbishop Nourhan Manukyan, the Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem, and His Beatitude Archbishop Sahak Mashalyan, the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople, heads of the sister Churches and ask the Almighty God to empower them in the successful realization of their mission. We convey our Pontifical love and blessings to the entire clergy of our Holy Church and all our faithful people in the homeland and the Diaspora. 

Dearly beloved, on this radiant day of the holy and glorious Resurrection, let us lift our prayers from the depths of our hearts to the Almighty God that he may grant peace and prosperity to the world, keep his all-protecting Holy Right hand over our homeland, and bless the Armenian nation with heavenly graces, enabling us to live in safety and security, and to glorify the All-Holy Trinity now and forevermore. Amen.

«Զսուրբ եւ զհրաշալի եւ զյաղթող 

զյարութիւնդ Քո օրհնեմք եւ փառաւորեմք» 

(Ժամագիրք): 

Սիրելի բարեպաշտ հաւատացեալներ,

Մեր Տէր Յիսուս Քրիստոսի Հրաշափառ Յարութեան աւետիսն է հնչում այսօր մեր եկեղեցիների սուրբ խորաններից։ Սքանչելախորհուրդ աւետիսը յոյսով ու հոգենորոգ զգացումներով է պարուրումհայրենիքի ու ազգային կեանքի ցաւերով ու կորուստներով դառնացած մեր սրտերը։ Կեանքը յաղթանակել է, մահը պարտուել ու խորտակուել։ Հաւատքով ու առ Աստուած ապաւինութեամբ միասնաբար օրհնաբանենք Տիրոջը ժամասացի խօսքերով. «Սուրբ եւ հրաշալի եւ յաղթող Քո Յարութիւնը օրհնում ենք եւ փառաւորում»։

Քրիստոս Իր Յարութեամբ մարդկութեանը ազատել է չարի իշխանութիւնից, ցոյց տուել ներման եւ սիրոյ ճանապարհը, հաշտութիւն հաստատել մարդու եւ Աստծոյ միջեւ եւ ընծայել յաւիտենական կեանքի յոյսն ու շնորհը։ Աստուածորդու ողորմածութեամբ կեանքի արշալոյսն է տարածուել մահուան խաւարի վրայ։ Կենարար խաչը, որի վրայ հեղուեց Տիրոջ Սուրբ Արիւնը, մահուան հանդէպ յաղթութեան նշան է դարձել, Յարութեան հաւատը՝ չարին պարտութեան մատնելու երկնապարգեւ ուժ։

Այո, սիրելիներ, յաղթող է, սուրբ եւ հրաշալի Քրիստոսի Յարութիւնը։ Աշխարհի յարափոփոխ իրադարձութիւնների եւ յատկապէս բարդ ու դժուարին իրավիճակների մէջ Յարութեան շնորհներով հաւատացեալները զօրանում են՝ վեր յառնելու փորձութիւններից, մերժելու կորստաբեր երեւոյթներն ու կործանարար մտածումներն ու գործերը, յաղթահարելու աղէտաբեր պատերազմների արհաւիրքները, նորոգուելու Տիրոջով, ինչպէս որ Սուրբ Գիրքն է վկայում. «Եթէ մէկը Քրիստոսի մէջ է, նա նոր արարած է» (Բ Կորնթ. 5.17)։  

Համայն մարդկութեանն այսօր էլ հնչում է հրաւէրը առաջնորդուելու աստուածադիր պատուիրաններով, մահուան յանդիման կերտելու կեանքի յաղթանակը, անվեհեր պաշտպանը լինելու ճշմարտութեան ու արդարութեան եւ առանց Աստծոյ մեռեալ գոյութիւնը փոխարինելու Տիրոջ հետ յարուցեալ կեանքի։ Այս կոչին ականջալուր, «վասն հաւատոյ, վասն հայրենեաց» սրբազան ուխտով միաբանուած՝ պատմութեան հոլովոյթներում դիմակայել ենք բազում դժուարութիւնների ու փորձութիւնների։ Յարութեան հաւատի վկայութիւնը նաեւ մեր օրերում հռչակումն է մեր ժողովրդի դաւանանքի եւ ազգային սրբազան արժէքներին հաւատարմութեան, որոնք դարեր շարունակ երաշխիքն են եղել հայոց ազգի ինքնութեան ու լինելութեան, դպրութեան ու գիտութեան զարգացման։ Հարկ է այս արժէքներով սերունդներ կրթել եւ անաղարտ ու անկորուստ պահպանել մարդկութեան գիտամշակութային գանձարանը հարստացրած մեր նախնեաց աւանդներն ու ժառանգութիւնը։  

Սիրելի բարեպաշտ զաւակներ ի Հայաստան եւ ի սփիւռս, Տիրոջ Սուրբ եւ Հրաշափառ Յարութիւնը գօտեպնդող խրախոյս է ամէնքիս յոյսով ու արիութեամբ դիմագրաւելու մեր երկրի առջեւ ծառացած մարտահրաւէրները՝ յատկապէս յետպատերազմեան այս ծանր շրջանում, երբ բռնազաւթուած ու հայաթափուած է Արցախը, եւ չեն դադարում Ադրբեջանի ծաւալապաշտական ու սադրիչ գործողութիւնները նորանոր պահանջներով, որոնք անմիջական սպառնալիքներ են ստեղծում մեր պետութեան անվտանգութեանը։ Յանցագործ դրսեւորումներով շարունակւում են Արցախի պատանդառուած քաղաքական ղեկավարութեան եւ անօրինաբար գերութեան մէջ պահուող մեր զաւակների նուաստացումները, ինչպէս եւ արցախահայութեան իրաւունքների անտեսման, Արցախում հայկական հոգեւոր-մշակութային ժառանգութեան իւրացման ու ոչնչացման անթաքոյց քաղաքականութիւնը։ Դատապարտելի այս իրողութիւնների յանդիման մեր ժողովրդի սեպուհ պարտքն է յաղթահարել ներազգային տարաձայնութիւններն ու անմիաբանութիւնը, լծուել ծանր կորուստներ կրած մեր ազգի վէրքերի ամոքմանը եւ կարողութիւնների մէկտեղմամբ հայրենիքի հզօրացմանը։ Յարուցեալ կեանքը, յիրաւի, սկսւում է քրիստոսաւանդ պատգամներով ապրելու վճռականութեամբ, արհաւիրքներից ու տառապանքներից դէպի կենսանորոգ ձեռքբերումներ առաջին քայլից։ Այս գիտակցութիւնը, այս ոգին պիտի աննկուն պահենք մեզանում, չընկրկենք մեզ պատուհասած փորձութիւնների դիմաց, չգործենք պարտուողական հոգեբանութեամբ եւ չվերածուենք վհատուած ու տկար ազգի՝ վտանգելով մեր հայրենիքի ապագան եւ անկախ պետականութիւնը։ Մեր ընթացքը չի վերջանում մեր մարտիրոսների ու քաջորդիների նահատակութեան վայրերում եւ ոչ էլ Արցախում թողնուած շիրիմների մօտ։ Չարի կողմից մեզ համար փորուած գերեզմանը բոլոր ժամանակներում թափուր է մնալու, քանզի մենք Քրիստոսի հետ նեղութիւնները յաղթահարող եւ ամեն գողգոթայից յարութեան հաւատքով յառնող ժողովուրդ ենք։ Արդարեւ, մեր ապագայի վերաբերեալ վճիռը խաւարինն ու մահուանը չէ, այլ կեանքինն ու յարութեանը։ Աստծոյ հետ հզօր հաւատքով, անընկճելի կամքով ու ոգով վեր յառնել կարող է ոչ միայն անհատը, այլեւ ազգն ու պետութիւնը։ Մեր ժողովրդի համար ներկայ բարդ պայմաններում կենսական եւ հրամայական է մեր երկրի հզօրացումը, կենսական է ապրել ու գործել անսակարկ հայրենասիրութեամբ ու ազգանուիրումով։ Այս հաստատակամ ընթացքով կարող պիտի լինենք կերտելու նոր հորիզոնները մեր պատմութեան եւ վերազարթօնքը պետական, ազգային-եկեղեցական մեր արժանապատիւ կեանքի։ Այսպէս իրականութիւն պիտի լինի առաքեալի բացականչութիւնը նաեւ մեր ժողովրդի համար. «Ու՞ր է, մա՛հ, քո յաղթութիւնը, ու՞ր է, գերեզման, քո խայթոցը» (Ա Կորնթ. 15.55): Արդ, վառ պահենք մեր սրտերում առ յարուցեալ Քրիստոս մեր հաւատը, յոյսն ու սէրը, գալիքի բարի ակնկալութիւնը։ Աստուած մեզ կոչում է յարութեան, ուստի, թօթափենք մեզանից երկիւղն ու յուսահատութիւնը, հեռացնենք մեզանից ատելութիւնն ու թշնամանքը, պիղատոսեան ու յուդայական գործելակերպը, մեր աչքերը յառենք յարուցեալ Փրկչին եւ ընթանանք միմիայն յարութեան յաղթական ճանապարհով։ 

Այս մաղթանքով եւ Սուրբ Յարութեան աւետիսով ողջունում ենք մեր Սուրբ Եկեղեցու Նուիրապետական Աթոռների գահակալներին՝ Ն.Ս.Օ.Տ.Տ. Արամ Ա Մեծի Տանն Կիլիկիոյ Կաթողիկոսին, Երուսաղէմի Հայոց Պատրիարք Ամենապատիւ Տ. Նուրհան արքեպիսկոպոս Մանուկեանին, Կոստանդնուպոլսի Հայոց Պատրիարք Ամենապատիւ Տ. Սահակ արքեպիսկոպոս Մաշալեանին, քոյր Եկեղեցիների հոգեւոր Պետերին՝ հայցելով Ամենակալ Աստծոյ զօրակցութիւնը իրենց առաքելութեան արդիւնաւորման մէջ։ Հայրապետական Մեր սէրն ու օրհնութիւնն ենք յղում մեր Սուրբ Եկեղեցու ողջ հոգեւոր դասին եւ հաւատաւոր համայն Մեր ժողովրդին ի հայրենիս եւ ի սփիւռս։ 

Սիրելիներ, Սուրբ եւ Հրաշափառ Յարութեան տօնի այս լուսառատ օրը մեր սրտերից աղօթք բարձրացնենք առ Ամենակալն Աստուած, որ աշխարհին պարգեւի խաղաղութիւն ու բարօրութիւն, Իր ամենախնամ Սուրբ Աջի հովանին տարածեալ պահի մեր հայրենիքի վրայ եւ օրհնի ու երկնահեղ շնորհներով պայծառացնի ազգս հայոց՝ ապրելու ապահով ու անվտանգ կեանքով եւ փառաւորելու Ամենասուրբ Երրորդութեանը այժմ եւ միշտ եւ յաւիտեանս. ամէն։

Title: "The sacred mystery of holy communion: Embracing divine grace and redemption."

Father Haroutioun Tachejian delivered this sermon on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at St. James.

My beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,

As we gather on this sacred occasion of Holy Thursday, we are called to reflect deeply upon the profound significance of the Last Supper, where our Lord Jesus Christ instituted the Holy Communion, imparting us the sublime mystery of His Body and Blood. In the words we have just read , we are reminded of the immense privilege and responsibility bestowed upon us as recipients of this divine sacrament.

"Holy Father, you who have called us by the name of your Only-begotten and have enlightened us through baptism of the spiritual font, make us worthy to receive this holy mystery for the remission of our sins." These words echo the divine calling each of us has received through the grace of baptism, wherein we are initiated into the body of Christ. It is through this sacrament that we are cleansed of our sins and made worthy to partake of the heavenly banquet.

"Make this communion part of the supper of the disciples by dispelling the darkness of sins." In commemorating the Last Supper, we are invited to share in the intimate fellowship experienced by Christ and His disciples. Just as He dispelled the darkness of sin through His sacrificial love, so too does He invite us to partake in this divine light through the Holy Communion.

"Look not upon my unworthiness and withhold not the graces of your Holy Spirit." In humility, we acknowledge our unworthiness to receive such a precious gift. Yet, we implore the mercy of God, trusting in His infinite love and compassion to bestow upon us the grace of His Holy Spirit, transforming our hearts and minds.

"Grant that this communion be for the expiation of sins and the loosing of transgressions." The sacrament of the Holy Communion is a sacred encounter wherein our sins are forgiven, and our souls are nourished unto eternal life. As we partake of Christ's Body and Blood, we are united with Him in His redemptive sacrifice, finding healing and reconciliation.

"I thank you, Christ the king, who have made me, unworthy as I am, worthy to partake of your holy Body and Blood." With hearts filled with gratitude, we offer thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ, who, in His boundless love, has deemed us worthy to share in His divine life. May we never take for granted the privilege bestowed upon us, but rather approach the Holy Communion with reverence and awe.

"Let this be to me not for condemnation but for the remission and forgiveness of sins, for health of soul and body and for the performance of all deeds of virtue." As we partake of the Holy Communion, may it not bring condemnation upon us but rather serve as a source of healing and renewal, strengthening us to live lives of holiness and virtue.

"So that I may be worthy, together with your saints, to glorify you with the Father and with the Holy Spirit, now and always and unto the ages of ages. Amen." Finally, let us offer ourselves as living sacrifices, consecrated unto the Lord, that we may be counted among the saints who eternally glorify the Holy Trinity.

As we approach the altar to receive the Holy Communion, let us do so with hearts full of faith and reverence, mindful of the great mystery unfolding before us. May this sacred encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ transform us ever more into His likeness, that we may shine forth as beacons of His love and mercy in the world May the peace of Christ dwell within us always. Amen.

Title: "The Sacred Rest: Reflections on Christ's Burial"

Father Haroutioun Tachejian delivered this sermon on Friday, March 29, 2024, during Good Friday services at St. James.

Dear Faithful,

As we gather on this solemn Good Friday evening, our hearts are heavy with the weight of the Cross, yet filled with the hope of resurrection. Tonight, we come together to commemorate the burial of our Lord Jesus Christ, the culmination of His earthly journey, and the beginning of the anticipation of His glorious rising.

In the Gospel narratives, we witness Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus tenderly wrapping the body of Jesus in linen cloths and laying Him in a new tomb. 

In contemplating Christ's burial, we are drawn into a profound mystery—the mystery of God's love expressed through the humility of His Son. The early Church Fathers reflected deeply on this mystery, offering insights that continue to resonate through the ages.

St. John Chrysostom, the eloquent preacher of Antioch, wrote: "By His burial, He sanctified the graves of the righteous. By His death, He extinguished the power of death. By His resurrection, He opened the way for the resurrection of all."

These words remind us that even in the darkest moments of our lives, there is light. Christ's burial was not the end, but the necessary precursor to His glorious resurrection. 

St. Gregory of Nyssa, another profound voice of the early Church, wrote: "He who veiled the heavens in clouds is now veiled in linen. He who is the delight of angels is laid in a tomb. He who upholds all creation in His hand is embraced by death."

In these poetic words, we catch a glimpse of the mystery of the Incarnation—the divine entering into the limitations of human existence, embracing even death itself. Christ's burial is a testament to His solidarity with us in our mortality, yet it is also a sign of His triumph over death, for the tomb could not hold the Author of Life.

As we adorn the tomb of our Lord with flowers tonight, let us do so with reverence and love, mindful of the sacredness of this moment. Let each blossom be a symbol of hope, a reminder that even in the darkest of nights, the promise of dawn awaits.

May our hearts be lifted by the knowledge that Christ's burial is not the end of the story, but the preface to the greatest of all miracles—the resurrection. Let us keep vigil tonight with faith and anticipation, for soon the stone will be rolled away, and our Savior will rise triumphant. Amen.

ԱՒԵՏԱՐԱՆ ԸՍՏ ՅՈՎՀԱՆՆՈՒ 1:1-17

Աշխարհի ստեղծագործութենէն առաջ գոյութիւն ունէր  Բանը: Բանը Աստուծոյ հետ էր եւ ԲանըԱստուած էր: Անիկա սկիզբէն Աստուծոյ հետ էր: Անով էր որ Աստուած ամէն ինչ ստեղծեց. առանցանոր ո՛չ մէկ բան ստեղծեց: Կեանքը անով սկիզբ առաւ: Եւ կեանքը մարդոց համար լոյսն է, որխաւարին մէջ կը փայլի. բայց խաւարը չկրցաւ հասկնալ զայն:

Յովհաննէս, որ Աստուծոյ կողմէ ղրկուած մարդ մըն էր, եկաւ Լոյսին համար վկայութիւն տալու,որպէսզի ամէն մարդ անոր միջոցաւ հաւատայ: Ինք Լոյսը չէր, այլ՝ Լոյսին համար վկայ մը: Բանն էրճշմարիտ Լոյսը, որ աշխարհ գալով՝ կը լուսաւորէ ամբողջ մարդկութիւնը: Աշխարհի մէջ էր անիկա,աշխարհը իրմով ստեղծուեցաւ, սակայն աշխարհը զինք չճանչցաւ: Իր իսկ ստեղծած աշխարհըեկաւ, բայց իր իսկ ստեղծած մարդիկը զինք չընդունեցին: Իսկ զինք ընդունողներուն եւ իրենհաւատացողներուն իշխանութիւն տուաւ Աստուծոյ որդիներ ըլլալու. ո՛չ արեան ճամբով եւ ո՛չմարմինի կամ մարդկային կամքով, այլ՝ Աստուծմէ ծնելով:

Եւ Բանը մարմին եղաւ եւ մեր միջեւ բնակեցաւ, եւ մենք տեսանք անոր փառքը. փառքը Միածինին,որ Հօրմէն եկաւ՝ շնորհքով եւ ճշմարտութեամբ լեցուն:

Յովհաննէս անոր մասին վկայեց, յայտարարելով.

– Ասիկա է ան՝ որուն մասին կ’ըսէի. «Ան որ ինձմէ ետք պիտի գայ՝ ինձմէ մեծ է, որովհետեւ ինձմէառաջ գոյութիւն ունէր»:

Անոր լիառատ շնորհքէն է որ մենք բոլորս շնորհքի վրայ շնորհք ստացանք. որովհետեւ ՕրէնքըՄովսէսի միջոցաւ տրուեցաւ, մինչ շնորհքն ու ճշմարտութիւնը՝ Յիսուս Քրիստոսի միջոցաւ:

ՅԱԿՈԲՈՍ 3:1-12

Եղբայրնե՛րս, ամէնքդ ալ ուրիշները սրբագրելու հետամուտ մի՛ ըլլաք, գիտնալով որ մենք՝ուսուցանողներս, աւելի խստութեամբ պիտի դատուինք, որովհետեւ բոլորս ալ յանցանքներ ունինք:

Ան որ գիտէ իր խօսքերը կշռել՝ կատարեալ մարդ է, ինքզինքին իշխելու կարող: Տե՛ս, թէ ի՛նչպէսձիերուն բերանը սանձ կը դնենք, որպէսզի մեզի ենթարկուին, եւ անով ձիուն բոլոր շարժումները կըկառավարենք: Կամ դիտէ՛ նաւերը. ո՛րքան ալ մեծ ըլլան եւ ինչպիսի՛ զօրաւոր հովերէ ալ քշուին,փոքրիկ ղեկ մը զիրենք կ’ուղղէ դէպի հոն՝ ուր նաւավարը կը փափաքի տանիլ: Նոյնպէս ալ լեզուն.թէեւ փոքր անդամ մըն է, բայց մեծամեծ բաներով կը պարծենայ: Գիտէք, թէ պզտիկ կայծը հսկայանտառ մը կրնայ հրդեհել: Լեզուն ալ կրակ է: Անիրաւութեան աշխարհ մըն է անիկա: Թէեւ պարզ մէկանդամն է մարմինին, բայց ամբողջ մարդը կ’ապականէ, եւ գեհենի կրակով բռնկած՝ մեր ամբողջկեանքը կրակով կը վառէ:

Բոլոր տեսակի գազանները, թռչունները, սողունները եւ ծովային կենդանիները նուաճուած ենմարդուն կողմէ եւ կը հնազանդին անոր: Բայց ո՛չ ոք կրնայ հնազանդեցնել մարդկային լեզուն, որ չարէ, անզսպելի եւ մահացու թոյնով լեցուն: Անով կ’օրհնենք մեր Տէրը եւ Հայրն Աստուած, եւ դարձեալանով կ’անիծենք մարդիկը, որոնք Աստուծոյ նմանութեամբը ստեղծուած են: Այսինքն՝ նոյն բերանէնկ’ելլեն թէ՛ օրհնութիւնը եւ թէ՛ անէծքը: Ասիկա ճիշդ չէ՛ սակայն, եղբայրնե՛րս: Միթէ աղբիւր մը միեւնոյնակէն քաղցր եւ դառն ջուր կը բղխէ՞: Կարելի՞ բան է, եղբայրնե՛րս, որ թզենին ձիթապտուղ տայ կամորթատունկը՝ թուզ: Նմանապէս կարելի չէ որ աղուտ հողէն քաղցր ջուր բղխի:

SUNDAY, APRIL 7, 2024

 James 3:1-12 

Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers and sisters, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. For all of us make many mistakes. Anyone who makes no mistakes in speaking is perfect, able to keep the whole body in check with a bridle. If we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we guide their whole bodies. Or look at ships: though they are so large that it takes strong winds to drive them, yet they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great exploits.  

How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire! And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is placed among our members as a world of iniquity; it stains the whole body, sets on fire the cycle of nature, and is itself set on fire by hell. For every species of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by the human species, but no one can tame the tongue—a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse those who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and brackish water? Can a fig tree, my brothers and sisters, yield olives, or a grapevine figs? No more can salt water yield fresh. 

John 1:1-17 

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.  

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.  

He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.  

And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth. (John testified to him and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he was before me.’”) From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
