Mike McNulty Receives Broomfield Volunteer Award

Congratulations to Broomfield Master Gardener Mike McNulty, who was recognized this month for outstanding volunteer service to the City and County of Broomfield (CCOB). In celebration of Broomfield's 20th anniversary as a county, CCOB recognized 20 volunteers for their dedication and service to the community.

Throughout his 13 years as a Colorado Master Gardener, Mike has shared his vast horticulture knowledge and experience with the Broomfield community. Mike’s willingness to take on many different tasks has been a great asset to the program. He has created and led workshops, staffed the Master Gardener Helpline, written articles, and mentored new volunteers as they learn the ropes of the program. Mike’s friendly and patient demeanor helps create a welcome environment in any project he takes on. CSU Extension is very grateful to have Mike as part of the Broomfield Master Gardener program, and his recognition as one of Broomfield’s outstanding volunteers is well deserved.

Congratulations, Mike!

Christmas Tree Surprises

Planning to enjoy a live Christmas tree this season? Many types of pine, spruce, and fir can add that holiday cheer to your home. Plant your tree to enjoy it for years to come, but check for surprises in your tree, instead of just beneath it. Some pests are tough to see at first glance, but come with clues. Find a lady beetle? Take a closer look for aphids. Seeing abnormal growth like this gall? That’s a reaction to a range of stressors, from insects to fungi.

Check out the resource list above for more information on caring for live Christmas trees.
