Dear Barbara,

A small team of Partners in Mission-USA board members visited Kamwenge Secondary and School from March 11 – 25. While there, Rev. Canon John Mulindabigwi’s 104-yr-old father died peacefully. It brought the entire Mulindabigwi family together and there was a huge out-pouring from the Kamwenge community and friends of Rev. John and Jolly. We were honored to be present to give thanks to this great man whose legacy was faith-filled children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren. We were glad to be present to offer support and solace to the family.

While we were there, the leadership team of the school and board members of PIM-USA met for a 2-day Retreat. During that time, we together developed an overarching statement to guide the school. These are not new themes, but set out the purpose of KSVS in a simple statement: To equip inspiring and innovative leaders who are God-fearing, faithful, wise, loving and committed to bring impact and transformation to Kamwenge, Uganda, and the world.

The leadership team also launched Project Timiseo. There is a 9-month gap between when students complete the school year at the end of November, and when they would begin advanced educational programs in August. Beginning this August, KSVS will be able to offer more scholarships to qualified KSVS graduates. Overall, Project Timiseo will provide supportive preparation for graduates planning to continue their education beyond secondary or vocational school.

One of the highlights of our time at KSVS was taking part in Parents Day when 200 parents of secondary and vocational students visited the school. Following a tour of the campus, they gathered in the Dining Hall to hear directly from some teachers and other leaders. During the Q&A time, parents spoke highly of the school, encouraging each other to continue paying school fees and supporting their children. In a few weeks, primary parents will be invited for a visit.

Please continue reading to learn about what is happening at KSVS, including expected completion of the Carpentry and Metalworking Shop this summer. Watch for a longer update, with more photos, about our trip at a later date.

Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Risen Savior.

I still recall with gratitude the comfort which the presence of PIM-USA board members gave us during the time I lost my father a few weeks ago. Those messages and prayers that they shared with us in that season were touching and we will live to treasure them.

In Kamwenge, the community is now mobilized and eager towards education both Primary and Secondary. Now that they have embraced the need for education, it presents us with a good challenge of how to meet it through additional classroom space, dorms, etc.

The Easter time was lively with children of Good Shepherd Kindergarten and Primary School presenting skits to the Parents about the suffering and death of Jesus Christ and making the messages come alive.

Toward the end of March, we invited parents of all secondary and vocational students to visit the school, for a time of updates, spiritual guidance, and fellowship. We were pleased to see so many parents and to hear about their commitment to their children’s educations.

In other updates, our Carpentry and Metal Fabricating Workshop is nearing completion level and getting ready for use. We are sincerely grateful for every hand that has supported this project and that has always supported the work of transforming our community.

We wish you God's blessings.

Carpentry and Metal Fabrication Workshop Update

We are thrilled to announce the workshop will be completed soon, with a target of July 2024. The school has begun looking at and making decisions about which new hand tools, electric tools, and large machinery to purchase for a fully-equipped classroom and workshop.

Thank you for all who donated and dreamed to make the hope of a new workshop come true! The instructors and students couldn’t be happier. They look forward to a much-expanded Carpentry and Metal Fabricating program in the future.

The Fox and the Hound Ride

Join us for the scenic ride along the Illinois Prairie Path and Fox River Train. The 55-mile route allows riders to start and end in Glen Ellyn in the early afternoon.

We love Two Hound Red Restaurant’s warm welcome of riders following the ride with friendly servers, craft beers, wine, soft drinks, and sandwiches.

The Goal: The Ride this year will support Kamwenge Secondary and Vocational School in 3 ways:

  • Multi-year project to build 2 dorms for vocational students coming to the growing campus. ($140,000). As the KSVS campus continues to develop and grow, so the need for more dormitory space grows.
  • Fund scholarships for KSVS graduates for university and technical education. ($5,000). Scholarships will give motivated students a chance to become leaders in their fields.
  • Help with general operational expenses including teacher salaries. ($20,000).

She is now married to a pastor, Moses; they serve at a church in Kyenjojo District. Annet continues to sew as a side job. They are parents of 5 children. Moses recently thanked us for “what you have done for my wife.”

Become a Student Champion

We're changing from student sponsor to Student Champion!

To better reflect the reality of the type of influence a sponsor has on a student, we are changing the name of this program.

An example of a student influenced by her Champion, Martha was able to join KSVS in 2012 because she had a Champion who paid her tuition. She was grateful that her dreams were coming true and studied diligently to become the first girl in her family to attend secondary school. When she graduated 6 years later, she received a scholarship to attend Uganda Christian University where she studied Social Work. Now in graduate school, Martha has started a project called "YOUTH AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT," aimed at equipping young girls and women with the tools and resources needed to thrive and contribute meaningfully to their lives.

MARTHA

Many are still awaiting a Champion. Join the current 84 Champions supporting 116 students.

Become a Student Champion and you will be Part of the Larger Story that is emerging in Kamwenge.

Please consider for $40/mo or $480/yr.

Prayer Requests

We value your prayers for Partners in Mission and the work on the campus of

Kamwenge Secondary and Vocational School in Kamwenge!

  • Pray comfort for Rev. John as he continues to miss and mourn the passing of his father.
  • Praise for the many parents who have come to understand the importance of an education for their children. Many children in the community still don’t attend school. Pray that all parents come to see the importance of an education.
  • Pray for Nurse Ruth who finds herself offering medical help not only to students, but also extended to many families in the community who visit her office. Pray particularly for a man who is suffering from a wound which has not healed.
  • Pray for the Kamwenge community which is experiencing drought conditions. Crops on campus which help to feed students are affected also, and the school is purchasing stored food now in anticipation of a shortage in the next several months.
  • Praise for continuing construction of the Carpentry and Metal Fabricating Workshop which is expected to be completed in July 2024, and for the joy that will be felt by the instructors and students.
  • Pray for the visiting team from Grove City College which will visit in May, 2024, that they are an encouragement and blessing to the school community and the school to them. This will be the first visit for everyone on the team.
