MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hello Everyone,
Words Matter. This was brought home to me recently with my message from last week mentioning Chinese New Year. A parent asked that I call it Lunar New Year as countries such as Vietnam, Korea, Japan, and other Asian countries celebrate this holiday. My experience with the Lunar New Year has always been as Chinese New Year, both living there and raising children of Chinese Heritage. But, that said, words matter, and speaking to our International community as a school community and an International cultural community, I am speaking to the whole community and need to be aware of what I say. I think all of us have stories of saying something a certain way and having to relearn a better and more inclusive way to say it. Let's keep ourselves open to learning new ways of interacting with each other. See you at our “Around the World Auction” next Saturday.
Thank you,

STAYING SAFE ONLINE: CYBERCRIME
In our schools, district, and surrounding community, safety extends beyond physical security. BSD families are also encouraged to familiarize themselves with current events and best practices related to web safety. The FBI recently shared a web safety topic that can impact students. In partnership with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), the FBI has issued a national public safety alert regarding an explosion in incidents of children and teens being coerced into sending explicit images online and extorted for money — a crime known as financial sextortion. It is reported that over 3,000 minor victims were targeted in the past year across the United States.
