From artistic director, KD
In times like these the challenges upon us sometimes feel unbearable. At MovingGround we continue to gather together with our communities and build experiences that reflect the kind of world we want to co-create and be a part of.
We send gratitude and love to all of you, including our friends, colleagues and collaborators who do work on the front lines of activism, change-based work, standing up to systems of oppression and refusing to be defined by them.
We send gratitude and love to our collaborators and advisors in San Francisco, San Jose, Point Reyes, Colorado, New York City, Philadelphia, Honduras, Palestine and around the country and world.

We stand together with the people of Palestine and all those around the world, who fight for their own lives, land and liberation on a daily basis--with no justice being served.
FREE FREE FREE Palestine.
And may all beings everywhere receive justice, life and liberation. For these are basic human rights.
Come work with MovingGround to connect with the earth, create site-specific experiences that remind of us our humanity, keep us connected to life, and to what's important. See more below and STAY IN TOUCH!

"Erasures" - Tierra y Raices Performance Experience
THURSDAY, MARCH 28TH 6 PM - 9 PM
MovingGround had our 2nd annual performance experience, created in gratitude with inspiration from the Tierra y Raices Exhibition, as part of the closing reception at School of Arts and Culture and the Mexican Heritage Plaza on Thursday March 28th from 6:30-7:30pm. This year's interactive experience included themes of migration, cultural erasure and loss--and contemplation on ways we sustain our cultural roots and ties to land, through our family histories, practices, languages and spiritual connections to one another and our earth mother. Respect to life and a tribute to peoples facing loss of their homelands around the world.
When: Thursday 3/28 6-9pm
Where: School of Arts and Culture at Mexican Heritage Plaza
(1700 Alum Rock Ave, San Jose, CA 95116)

Site Specific Performance Making Workshop Series
Sat April 27th @ Hawk Creek Farm
Sat June 22nd @ Hawk Creek Farm 11am-3pm
Sat August 24th @ Albany area
Sat September 28th @ Oakland area
This workshop series explores tools and skills for creating site-specific performance work. We began this series on April 27th as part of Bay Area Dance Week and had the wonderful opportunity to hold this event at Hawk Creek Farm in San Francisco.
We have the amazing opportunity to return to Hawk Creek Farm again for our next workshop in this series on Saturday June 22nd. Afterwards we will have two more workshops in this series: Saturday August 24th in the Albany area, and Saturday September 28th in the Oakland area. Location details for our August and September workshops will be provided to participants upon registration! Cost is $35-50 sliding scale.
We will ask questions like, how do you work with and on land as a maker creating an audience-interactive experience? How do you create relationship with the places and spaces where you are working, then invite participants to do the same? Facilitated by MovingGround Artistic Director Krista DeNio and collaborator Maica Folch; come explore with us!

Sap Flow: Embodied Connection with Ancestry and Nature
June 6-7 & 13-14 @ 8pm
June 8 & 15 @2pm
@ CounterPulse
The project explores the pathway, rhythm, and characteristics of the sap flow within trees, drawing inspiration from the concept of embodying fluids from Body Mind Centering® practice. The project seeks to investigate the sap flow in trees as a metaphorical representation of the interconnectedness between humans, nature, and ancestral heritage. By embodying the qualities of this fluid, the artists intend to establish a direct connection with their Lenca indigenous ancestors. Four artists involved in this project are from Honduras, and have Lenca ancestry. The possibility of creating this liquid connection —human-to-tree—might offer a way to contest racist and oppressive systems ingrained in family and socio-economic structures that have been perpetuated by colonial legacies and cultural influences from the United States. The project aims to motivate others to reclaim all their ancestry, all their roots without hierarchies, facilitating a collective journey of self-discovery and healing.
