Eleven faculty members completed the Cancer Clinical Trial Bootcamp this month, dedicating 16 weeks to learning how to design and write investigator-initiated cancer clinical trials. UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge Raises $1 Million in 2023 to fund 23 Research Grants
Through the unwavering support of dedicated participants, donors and supporters who collectively raised $1 million in 2023, the UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge has awarded grants to 23 pilot projects and early phase clinical trials, reaching a remarkable milestone of 123 funded projects since 2017. Entering Mentoring Training Interest Form
The CFCCC Cancer Research Training & Education Coordination (CRTEC) team are considering bringing the Entering Mentoring curriculum, developed by the Center for Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER), to our institution. This program aims to enhance mentors' skills for productive, culturally responsive mentoring relationships, benefiting both mentors and research trainees.

2024 UCaTS Call for D-PDTC Pilot Studies
The University of California and UT Southwestern Disparities PDX Development and Trial Center (UCaTS) comprised of UC Davis (lead), UCSF, UCI, UCLA, UCSD and UT Southwestern is accepting applications to contribute to the achievement of the UCaTS’ overall objectives of developing PDX trial strategies for preclinical testing of single agents and drug combinations, with a focus on the predominant racial/ethnic minority populations residing in California and Texas, namely, Hispanic/Latino Americans [HLAs], Asian Americans/Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders [AANHPIs], and African Americans [AAs]. The focus will be on gastric and lung cancers that disproportionately affect minority populations using FDA approved therapeutic agents. This call is for pilot study applications of budgets of up to $50,000 direct costs (plus F&A) with a 09/01/2024 start date and that must be expended by 08/31/2025. Learn more here.

The ETR is excited to discuss your project’s study design and tissue needs. We can now create custom tissue microarrays (TMA) with tissue you provide or human tissue remnants and scan whole histology slides at 40X. Selection of optimal representative tissue regions can be performed by our pathologist.

'Cutting the cable' between CD8+ T and T regulatory cells enhances checkpoint immunotherapy

UC Irvine study reveals circadian clock can be leveraged to enhance cancer immunotherapy
A multidisciplinary research team at the University of California, Irvine has revealed that the circadian clock – the biological pacemaker that governs daily rhythms in physiological processes, including immune functions – can be leveraged to enhance the efficacy of checkpoint inhibitor cancer therapy. Checkpoint inhibitors block different proteins from binding to tumor cells, allowing the immune system’s T cells to kill the tumor.
