For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:1-18

This past week as I was working on my laptop, I noticed a haunting sight through my window. With the Colorado blue sky as their background, four giant black vultures were circling hundreds of feet in the air.  I knew what this meant – death. Something died, and the birds were circling their lunch. Circling black birds mean death.

Often the cross of Christ is associated with death and for many, the cross is ridiculous. They may wonder why you wear a cross as a necklace or hang a cross in your home. Doesn’t the cross mean death? Isn’t that foolish? The Apostle Paul says it is … to those who are dying.

But for those who do believe, however, the cross means the end to death, sin, and everlasting condemnation. The cross is the instrument of God’s salvation and means life in Christ today and forever - it is the power of God!

Our Lord Jesus died for you so that you may “have life and have it abundantly.” The cross means life for me, for you, and for all who believe! God had a plan from the beginning to save us and His plans are always best whether they make sense to us or not. So the next time you look at a cross, remember the life given for you so that you might have life. Thanks be to God!

Join us Sunday as we discover how Jesus works through our interrupted plans as we hop in the boat on the sea with Jesus and his disciples.

I can’t wait!

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7
