September 11, 2001

"It was a day that changed and shaped our nation. For the friends and family of the 2,977 victims, it was a day of immeasurable loss. For Americans around the country – and the world – it was a time of unity in the face of a shared struggle. And for some, it was a call to action.
(20) years ago, on September 11, 2001, the United States came under attack. In response, 181,510 Americans enlisted in the ranks of active duty service, and 72,908 joined the enlisted reserves in the year following Sept. 11. According to the Department of Defense, young Americans’ interest in joining the military increased by 8%, and many claim that it was 9/11 that inspired them to enlist."

August is...
Antiterrorism Awareness Month
https://milspousefest.com/antiterrorism-awareness-month-2/

August is Antiterrorism Awareness Month. This is a month set aside to raise awareness to the threat of terrorism, and also to encourage vigilance and the reporting of any potential threats. “If you see something, say something” has been a common theme and saying among the agencies and their websites for many years now, and it is even more strongly emphasized in the month of August.
There may still be some confusion on what exactly you should report. The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) website tells people to, “Trust your instincts; if a behavior or activity makes you feel uncomfortable, report it.”
Here are a few more specific things to be aware of and report:
  • People drawing and/or measuring important buildings
  • Strangers asking about security forces or procedures
  • A briefcase, suitcase, backpack, or package left behind or unattended
  • Car or truck left in a No Parking Zone in front of government or other important buildings
  • A person wearing clothes that are too big/bulky and/or too hot for the weather
  • Chemical smells or fumes
  • Purchasing supplies or equipment that can be used to make bombs or weapons
Basically, the government and agencies want to encourage people to be aware of their surroundings. They want everyone to keep in mind that if something appears suspicious, report it.

Operation Resilience Grows Here

Resilience Book Review:

Authors: Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant
Recommended by: Ee Ling Lim
Ee Ling Lim:This book is about resilience, and I only wish there was such a book when I was younger. I was 18 when my dad passed away and it was something that I didn't talk about because I was so afraid of opening the floodgates. It hit me hard, the day my daughter commented that I didn't seem to miss my dad - because I never talked about him.
I don’t think Sheryl Sandberg needs any introduction. She was the VP of global online sales at Google and now is the COO of Facebook (and the first woman to serve on the tech giant’s board). After Lean In, she released her second book, Option B, where she talks about ways to build resilience and how to recover faster and better after life’s inevitable setbacks.
