Student Spotlight

Morgan Albright

Hello! My name is Morgan Albright. I am a master of Social Work graduate at the University of Oklahoma. I was born and raised in Oklahoma, primarily in Edmond, and I have been attending OU for the last three years, for my bachelor's and master's of social work degrees.

Morgan has recently been featured in the local news for her work in the new Victim Advocate Program in partnership with the Norman Police Department. See the link below for details.

 A Master's in Social Work

What has been your favorite class at OU?

Out of all of my classes, Mental Health Assessments, taught by Kirby Bewley (one of my favorite professors) was one of my favorite classes. It was so interesting to learn about different mental health diagnoses, and Kirby Bewley made the class very fun and interesting to learn from. I would recommend that class to any and all social work students.

What advice would you offer fellow students interested in pursuing their master's in social work?

My advice to any oncoming MSW students is to study hard, find what makes you passionate about social work, and make connections anywhere you can. It is such an incredible field, with so many opportunities to serve people and the community on various different levels. Make sure that you chase the kind of social work that brings you joy, and make connections with other MSW students, professors, and networks outside of the school. You will have such a great time working on your MSW in the School of Social Work, and I hope you make lifelong connections and friends through this amazing program as I have. I learned so much in my master's degree program, and I hope you enjoy it just as much as I did!

Could you describe the Victim's Support Program?

The Victim's Support Program at the Norman Police Department is an incredible opportunity to social work students like me, who are passionate about social work and assisting both the community and the officers of the Norman Police Department. In this program, I work with victims of crime to provide them with personal advocacy, information, and support. I can also help assess personal safety and emergency basic needs. I can provide support, ideas, and information that I have learned through my social work degrees (such as trauma-informed care, self-care practices, and other practices I have learned in this degree) to the law enforcement officers with whom I get the honor to work beside. I am able to assist these officers in their jobs by taking care of the victim of the crime and their needs, while the officers work on the investigation. It is a great partnership. As the first student that the NPD has taken on, I have an amazing opportunity to help build this program from the ground up and pave the way for other MSW students that come in behind me in this position.
