Creating, Conserving, & Connecting Parks, Trails, & Greenspace in Sandy Springs

Visit Morgan Falls and Learn about the First Section of the Springway Trail!

Join us for our next Trail Blazers walk on Saturday, April 13 at 8:30 AM for a sneak peak of the first section of the Springway trail that is currently under construction. The trail section starts at Morgan Falls Overlook Park, goes past the Morgan Falls dam on the Chattahoochee River and features a boardwalk around nearby Orkin Lake. It's the first section of a planned 5-mile loop. The walk will be led by Sandy Springs Conservancy Board Chair Jack Misiura and Board member Terry Morris. SSC has been working closely with the city on the trail plan and implementation.

Trail Blazers monthly series of guided walks explores parks and trails in and around Sandy Springs on the second Saturday morning of each month from March - October.

Registration is required and space is limited.

Trail Blazers at Chastain Park!

Our first Trail Blazers walk of the year exploring Chastain Park in Atlanta was fun and interesting! Our group was led by Brian Barnes, Director of Operations and Volunteer Programs for the Chastain Park Conservancy. We covered about a 1 ½ miles of paths on the north end of the park including some of the new nature trails recently opened, the pond, renovated pavilions, playground, art center and learned about the history of the park that was originally built in the early 1940s.

U.S. Bank Volunteers Get Dirty!

Volunteers from U.S. Bank and their Elavon division came out on a rain-threatened morning to help beautify Morgan Falls Overlook Park. As the Sandy Springs Conservancy's signature nad first park project, Morgan Falls is near and dear to us! Thank you U.S. Bank/Elavon for your time and efforts and to the city of Sandy Springs for providing the materials and tools.

Springway Update and What's Next

The first section of Sandy Springs new trail network, the Springway, is under construction and making progress around Orkin Lake near the Chattahoochee River and Morgan Falls Dam. Construction by the city of the board walk around the lake has been slowed due to rain and other environmental issues. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. The 1.6-mile segment connects Morgan Falls Overlook Park to Orkin Lake to Roswell Rd at Cimarron Pkwy. The next section of the 5-mile loop is awaiting funding for construction. The entire city trail plan includes about 30 miles of connecting paved pedestrian paths throughout the city.
