Nau mai, haere mai, whakatau mai!

Welcome to our Autumn-Winter Tai Tokerau Trades Training Newsletter. We hope you are all keeping warm and cosy with the cooler weather setting in and the winter sports in Te Tai Tokerau underway.
We are glad to be back under the Orange traffic light Covid-19 protection framework allowing us greater freedoms, and we look forward to being able to pick up some of our larger-scale inter-school events. Bringing more exposure and knowledge to vocational education pathways for the tai tamariki of Te Tai Tokerau. Watch this space.
We want to share the whakapapa to our name Tai Tokerau Trades Training. Tai Tokerau is the Māori name given to our beautiful region and we are honored to use it. Our managing director Maea Pivac attended a special hui with the Tai Tokerau District Maori Council Executive in 2019 to share our kaupapa and to gain their blessing. We are proud to wear the name and strive to uphold I runga I te Tika, Te Pono me Te Aroha.

Introducing Tai Tokerau Trades Training's Roopu Taumata
(from left to right) Hiritanga Wiremu Diamond, Maria Lawton, Marion Kerepeti-Edwards, Hepi Haika.
As a collective, our Roopu Taumata bring Māori and Pacific cultural advantage and support to our kaupapa. Their seeds of wisdom encapsulate the thinking mind of industry and trades. Their vast community connections enable the movements of our waka, each wave different from the last rippling effect. They align our vision to that of our grassroots whānau, villages, hapū, and iwi. We see our roopu as a part of our Korowai, each of them bringing an assortment of kai (knowledge), but each with its own unique essence, like waves on calm waters, gently enabling our movements.
The Roopu Taumata continues to grow our ‘indigenous imbued’ investment. We are very privileged to have them guide us.
We want to extend our grateful thanks to all the schools, industry, and everyone else connected within our education to employment whanau mahi for your support, encouragement, commitment, and for helping bridge the gap between secondary school students and the work world.
Nga mihi nui kia koutou katoa.

EEB Team are on the road to you and your schools!
With the move from red to orange traffic light phases in Northland, the EEB team have been able to get out to more Kura and deliver our Pathways Presentation and Employability Programme during term two.
The Pathways Presentation delivered in an hour long session is available to year 9 & 10 ākonga.
The presentation is designed to support ākonga in creating a better understanding of Vocational pathways. And encourage exploration of the many opportunities within!
Our aim with the Pathways Presentation is to inspire ākonga to use their time in Secondary School wisely and help align them to their individual future pathways! Not only through subject selection… but also by exploring subjects and skills that they enjoy or are good at.
The pathways presentation is an awesome entry tool to vocational education exposure and opportunities!
Our Employability Programme is specifically designed for year 11-13 ākonga to equip them with key work readiness skills that Kiwi employers have identified they see as key skills in great employees.
All workshops are delivered in an interactive and fun way, covering soft skills such as Teamwork, Communication, Goal Planning and, many more!
The Employability programme is designed to give ākonga the tools they need to successfully transition to and sustain long-lasting employment in any industry!

Tai Tokerau Trades Training - In school Presentations
We surveyed 85 students before and after delivering our Pathways Presentation in term 2. One of the questions asked is if the students are aware of what Vocational Pathways are… Before hearing the Pathways Presentation, only 9%!!! Answered yes and after the presentation, that number jumped to 84%!!!
If you think either of these programmes could be beneficial to your kura, feel free to reach out to our Vocational Coordinators, Awhina and Regan who are more than willing to discuss these with you more.

Northland is lucky enough to have substantial scholarships available for the upcoming Whakatipu course, running from June 21st - June 28th this year. This programme would be excellent for secondary students who are pursuing a vocational pathway.
The value of the scholarships is $3,246 per person which leaves a remaining fee of $250 each, as well as the additional costs of transport to Picton for course start and the cost of getting our medical form completed.
Nominations and bios for the students are due by late March-early April.
