Diocesan Convention Delegate Nominations
Diocesan Annual Convention ~ March 10–11 in Bluffton, SC

The Annual Convention of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina is scheduled for Friday, March 10–Saturday, March 11, at Church of the Cross in Bluffton, SC. Due to the short time frame between the elections at St. Philip’s Annual Meeting on March 5 and the Diocesan Convention five days later, coupled with the need for overnight travel, nominations for lay delegates to represent St. Philip’s at the Diocesan Convention are open early. Nominations from the floor at the Annual Meeting will also be accepted.
Church bylaws state that the congregation must elect four lay delegates and four alternates to represent the Parish at the Diocesan Convention. The current Junior and Senior Wardens are usually nominated by title, and then there should be at least six other delegates nominated in order to have eight delegates total.
To submit a nomination, please first confirm with the person that he or she is willing and able to represent St. Philip’s by traveling to Bluffton and attending both days of the Convention. After receiving confirmation, please send the nominee’s name to Rachel Murphy (rachel@saintphilips.church), Kat Phillips (kphil100@gmail.com), or Penn Hagood (pennhagood@gmail.com).
There will be an opportunity for nominations from the floor at the Annual Meeting as long as the nominee is willing and able to travel to Bluffton the following Friday.
Voting will take place at St. Philip’s Annual Meeting on Sunday, March 5. Convention lodging has been reserved at recommended hotels for St. Philip’s delegates.
Schedule of Diocesan Convention:

The St. Philip’s Home Missions Team Announces 2023 Partners
A message from Jill Settle, Co-Chair

The St. Philip’s Home Mission Team gathered for our annual retreat on Saturday, January 7. It was a wonderful time of fellowship with reflection, prayer, and discernment of God’s call for our partnerships in 2023. Our focus remains on Christ-centered organizations while limiting our partnerships to four.
We shared our hearts for St. Philip’s Church, our community and serving those with basic needs of food, clothing and shelter. We are also encouraged by the Great Commission to spread the Gospel and make disciples. Please join us in 2023 as we continue to “dream God’s dreams” while being the hands and feet of Christ.
There will be opportunities throughout the year to participate with each of our home mission partners. We will retain partnerships with Star Gospel Mission, Lowcountry Pregnancy Center, and Water Mission. We are also excited to partner in 2023 with the Lowcountry Fellowship of Christian Athletes, whose vision is “to see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.”
In addition, we will host events for non-partners to include two Red Cross blood drives, as well as two meals for St. Alban’s Chapel. This year, we also look forward to hosting an event for Hope To Home, an organization that delivers essential home furnishings to displaced or homeless individuals and families who secure housing, transforming their empty living space into a home.

House of Prayer: February Prayer Points
by Frenchie Richards, St. Philip's Prayer Team

“My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.” ––Isaiah 56:7
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise.” ––Psalm 100:4
Answered Prayers (Thank You, Lord):
1. The Mere Anglican Conference was a HUGE success.
- The speakers arrived safely and gave excellent messages.
- The organization, volunteers, and every detail were perfect.
- The event was sold out and the facilities both at the Music Hall and Hotel worked well.
-
Many nations and many states from US were represented fulfilling the Isaiah 56:7 Scripture, “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.” Lord, we give YOU all the glory and honor for all that you did through this conference.
2. That the Washington Prayer Breakfast went well.

Did You Know?
by Susan C. Keller

Did you know that our very own beloved Suzanne McCord, along with her son, Justin, and his wife, Rachel, traveled to Midlothian, Texas, last June to be part of The Chosen season three finale featuring the feeding of the 5,000? Some 12,000 people from 36 countries came to be part of this historic scene. Suzanne said, “We had to be COVID-tested in the parking lot by five a.m. We didn’t get back to our car until ten p.m. that night. It was 100 degrees ... and a crazy day. But they fed us, kept us hydrated, entertained us, and made it all worthwhile. Even though you can’t see us, we were there. And we would do it again! It was amazing being there with so many Christians who love The Chosen!”
The Chosen is the first multi-season series about the life and ministry of Jesus. Its success and popularity have been a huge surprise to Hollywood in that it is completely independently funded, produced, and directed apart from any influence from any of the mainstream studios. Rated by Rotten Tomatoes at 100%, it is the largest crowd-funded media project of all time and the first 2 seasons have been watched by 400 million people to date and translated into 56 languages.
“The Chosen carries the character development of House of Cards or The Crown, but with an authenticity to the biblical narrative like nothing I’ve ever witnessed in faith-based media.” – Lucas Miles, pastor and film producer
“The success of the series is a powerful reminder to Hollywood that faith-focused projects can sometimes become breakthrough hits.”– John Jurgensen, The Wall Street Journal
