COVID-19 UPDATE
Our Health Committee update as of May 13, 2022 is as follows:

In the last few months, we have been able to largely resume our normal programming (babysitting, indoor dining, etc.), and remove the strict limitations on attendance numbers and spacing. We also lifted our mask mandate, while keeping our vaccine requirement in effect.

Recently, however, COVID-19 cases have started creeping up again. In response, at the April board meeting, a motion was passed to reinstate our mask mandate should the local percent positivity rates exceed 3%. Unfortunately, the latest numbers show that the time has come. As a result, our mask mandate is now back in effect. We are hopeful that this will only be a short term measure.

Community Events and Announcements
From the grips of the Nazis to the top of the Olympic podium, from the cheap seats to center stage at Madison Square Garden, from yellow stars to silver spoons, this complex tale traverses the spectrum of the human experience to detail how perseverance, love, and legacy can survive through generations, carried on the shoulders of a simple and beautiful game. By the Grace of the Game is a multi-generational family epic detailing history’s only known journey from Auschwitz to the NBA.
Join the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans on June 20, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. for an engaging Zoom conversation with author Dan Grunfeld, son of University of Tennessee basketball legend Ernie Grunfeld. Click here to purchase the book from Octavia Books.
Join the Jewish Community Center on Sunday, June 26 at 11:00 a.m. for a lovely jazz brunch honoring JCC Executive Director Leslie Fischman, who is retiring after 25 years at the J.

As executive director for the past eleven-and-a-half years, Leslie has guided the JCC through many storms—both figuratively and literally. Through hurricanes and a COVID lockdown, a capital campaign and major construction, she has expanded our facilities and our programming, while always striving to create a welcoming, engaging and safe environment for all.

Catered by Melanie Blitz, the brunch is just one small way to celebrate Leslie. Come raise a glass as we make a toast in her honor and thank Leslie for planting the seeds for our very bright future.

RSVP online by clicking this link, by calling (504) 897-0143, or in person at the reception desk. The cost is $18 per person.
Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience welcomes New York Times best-selling author, activist, and comedian (and Mobile, Alabama native) Annabelle Gurwitch on Sunday, June 26 from 3 - 4 p.m. She’ll tell us about her newest work You're Leaving When? Adventures in Downward Mobility as well as her southern Jewish story in a way only she can - with humor and insight. Annabelle will also be signing her newest book after the program.
In collaboration with Home is Here NOLA, Touro Synagogue’s Project Reyacha is actively supporting asylum seekers arriving to the Greater New Orleans community. Touro is a “community support organization”. The need is great and there are many ways to lend support including through financial donations, medical and legal support, transportation assistance, and donations of household furniture and other items. Housing and food (both cooked and kitchen supplies) are always a need as well. Direct engagement with these new community members is also needed in order to support new community members’ success in their new homeland. Touro Synagogue welcomes non-Touro members as volunteers in this initiative.

Please contact Jill Israel, Touro Synagogue Project Reycha Coordinator, jisraelnola@gmail.com (504) 782-1199. Feel free to contact Ali Simon or Davida Finger for additional information.
