Meet the Team!

Last week, we provided an update on our progress during the first half of this year, which included building a team of part-time veterinarians to provide high-quality medical care for the cats at Nine Lives Foundation and in the community. We'd now like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the veterinarians who care for the cats who depend on us.

Welcome to the team, Dr. Julie Desai, DVM; Dr. Barbie Laderman-Jones, DVM, MS; Dr. Francis Mueller, DVM, MS; and Dr. Christine Tang, DVM!

Dr. Desai graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1995. She has worked in a variety of local practices including small animal, equine, and shelter medicine and surgery.

Dr. Desai is dedicated to helping improve the health and welfare of feral and non-feral cat populations in our community. She enjoys gardening, hiking, travel, and spending time with her family.

After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Jones completed a 3-year residency in shelter medicine at UC Davis. She is board-certified in Shelter Medicine Practice, and has worked primarily in the nonprofit sector, including shelters, high-volume spay/neuter clinics, and general practice clinics that provide low-cost care for owned pets.

Dr. Jones serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Shelter Veterinarians. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, swimming, dancing, and travel.

Dr. Mueller decided to be a veterinarian when she was 8 years old because she loved animals and wanted to help protect them. She got her DVM and MS from UC Davis and her first jobs were at small animal hospitals in the Bay Area. More recently, she has done relief/contract work, including several years for the Humane Society of Silicon Valley.

She and her husband have a family that includes three children, four cats (including two "pandemic kittens"), one rabbit, and one ginormous dog.

Dr. Tang graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. She enjoys spending time outdoors, and aspires to learn how to juggle. Dr. Tang is dedicated to animal welfare, helping our animal companions, and our community.

She considers herself fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a wonderful staff and learn from her patients and clients every day at Nine Lives Foundation.

Lincoln Edition

Lincoln is an outgoing guy with tons of personality. He’s a loyal companion who wants to be where the action is — whether that’s on your lap or your keyboard, or keeping a watchful eye from one of his favorite lookout posts.

Lincoln is an older gentleman but is still playful and active. He’s become less tolerant of other cats over the years, so would need to be an only kitty. He’d thrive in a quiet home and would love to be your work-from-home supervisor!

Update! We are so excited to share that Sylvie, the kitty featured in our latest Mews Flash, found a foster home! We are thrilled that she will get the special attention she needs to become the healthiest and happiest version of herself.

Help Us Reach Our Goal!

Many supporters ask how to make the most impact with their generous gifts to Nine Lives Foundation. Perhaps the most effective and helpful way is to establish a recurring donation, which gives us stability and allows us to plan well into the future.

Unlike many other rescue organizations, Nine Lives doesn't receive financial support from government agencies. We count on your donations to keep us stable and afloat — to keep the lights on, the doors open, the facilities clean and stocked, and, most importantly, to provide lifesaving treatment, keep the cats cared for, and maintain our diligent efforts to find their loving forever homes.

In addition to our recurring costs, there are several pieces of medical equipment that need costly repairs or upgrades. Your donations will go towards those items — a dental machine, x-ray machine, and surgical lights, to name a few — so we can provide the best possible care to every cat that comes through our doors.
