Foundation of Friends
Amazing that we are already in the month of March. The Library is moving forward with a number of activities for all ages in the community. And of course, the Foundation of Friends continues to support the Library in many different ways. Dinner In White, Wine Tasting event, helping with the upcoming Mini Golf outing, and many more things that we do to promote the Library as a place for all.
We as members of the Foundation Board would again like to thank all of you who have contributed dollars in our efforts to support the Library. The money is used to assist in building upkeep, promoting the Library through various advertising, and financially supporting the “wish list” of the Board of Trustee’s Facility committee.
Another way of supporting our great community Library is through volunteering. Yes a few of us did some landscaping, tree trimming, painting, and some general maintenance.
But there are also many other ways to volunteer. Items such as stuffing envelopes, assisting with various events, gardening, book sales, processing materials, and so on. We could always use help and the time commitment is up to you.
The Foundation of Friends is focused on supporting the great Indian Valley Public Library in many ways. But our main charge is to keep this great place available to all in our community. And with your help we can continue to meet the needs of our patrons and members of the Indian Valley region.
William G. (Bud) Leister, Jr.

Backyard Bouquets: Starting a Sustainable Cut Flower Garden
Monday, March 13th — 7:00—8:00 PM
Community Room
Join us for an enjoyable and beginner-friendly discussion on starting your very own backyard cut flower garden. This practical presentation will provide you with all the information you need to grow your own bouquets this summer - even in a tiny space as small as a balcony - and you'll leave with a detailed garden plan custom to our local climate. Information covered will include the most popular cut flower varieties (including the easiest varieties to grow), starting seeds indoors, growing tips, and how to harvest your blooms. Organic and sustainable growing methods - including creating a no-till flower bed, choosing organic fertilizers, composting, native plants, soil health, and organic pest control - will also be addressed.
About the presenter: After Dr. Alanna Messner-Scholl stepped back from her career in mental healthcare to focus on raising her two young children, she began flower gardening as a light-hearted hobby. The garden eventually grew (literally and figuratively!) into Wavy Roo Florals, a tiny homegrown flower shop serving the Harleysville area. Wavy Roo Florals is committed to using sustainable, organic growing methods and proudly donates 20% of all sales.
