Cambridge House of Swansea, a Gardant-managed affordable assisted living community in the St. Louis Metro East area, celebrated its 15^th Anniversary. Since opening, the community has served more than 770 older adults of all incomes who need some assistance to maintain their independence. Director of Maintenance Ed McCabe and Certified Nurses Aides Mandy Hawkins, Deborah Dumas, and Dameka Davis were honored for 15 years of service to Cambridge House of Swansea.

Betty, an “original” resident at Brookstone Estates of Tuscola has lived at the affordable assisted living community in Illinois since 2003. She recently broke her shoulder and was away from the community for three months. Her family decided to pay to hold apartment while she was gone. The day she returned, residents and staff welcomed her back by greeting her and handing her flowers. She visited the salon at the community to get her hair done, and then wanted to be sure she was on time for BINGO. The next day her daughter called the Executive Director, crying and expressing her gratitude for the way the community welcomed her Mom back home and for the ways the community has touched her Mom’s life for the past 20+ years.

An editorial posted on the Nature website asked if it is time to sound the alarm about kidney disease as it is the third fastest-growing cause of death worldwide. It is projected to become the fifth highest cause by 2040.

Karen Franklin, Senior Regional Director of Human Resources with Gardant, has been selected to participate in the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living’s (AHCA/NCAL) Diversity Executive Leadership Program. She is one of 15 participants from across the U.S. to have been selected to participate in the DELP program, which provides participants with the tools to champion issues affecting the quality of long-term, sub-acute and assisted living care and the skills to drive change. Karen is the second Gardant team member to be selected for DELP. Stephen Woods, a Regional Director of Operations, is completing the program this year.

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reports that drug shortages in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2024 was at the highest level since the ASHP began tracking the data in 2001.

Chrisi Karcz, Vice President of Clinical Services with Gardant, participated in the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement (AIM) 2024 Advocacy Forum in our nation’s Capitol. She joined volunteers from across the country in advocating for policies to improve the lives of individuals impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. She had the opportunity to meet with the legislative staffs for Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth and Representatives Darin LaHood, Jonathan Jackson and Lauren Underwood.
