SEAS The Breeze is In Service!
By the end of this week most if not all the current Level 3 & Level 4 skippers will have been checked out on SEAS The Breeze.

Activity sails are on the calendar, and the boat is available for private reservations. Check the calendar and if you're a skipper sign up to run an activity sail, if you're crew call the assigned skipper and get out on the boat.

I can tell you from personal experience it's a great boat to sail on!

For those who are interested, here's a copy of the operating manual:
SEAS The Breeze Open Boat Event
For those who weren't able to attend the open boat party on Sunday a week ago, we're providing another opportunity immediately before the next General Meeting.

Come down to the boat in slip R71 at Brown's Point Marina, Front Street, Keyport on Tuesday July 27, 4:00pm - 7:30pm, and see what all the fuss is about!
General Membership Meeting July 27, 7:30pm
As mentioned above, this month's general membership meeting will once again be in person at the Keyport Yacht Club, on Tuesday July 27 at 7:30pm.

John Malool, owner of Trident Marine Services, conducted the very thorough survey of what has since become our newest boat, SEAS The Breeze. John has been surveying boats for 14 years. He is going to give a presentation on "What to look for when purchasing a boat". There were so many items on the survey he did on the Catalina that we wouldn't have even known to look at!

You should also plan on coming to the meeting and socializing once again with everyone you haven't seen for 16 months!
Making Payments via PayPal
Quite a few people have asked if they can use PayPal to make payments other than for membership renewal using PayPal. The answer is -

Yes, you can - but you must include a note indicating what the payment is for. After you enter the amount and click Next, PayPal offers the option of adding a note.

We are using the same process and link that we set up for the Catalina Boat Fund donations - use the button below. The note might say "Donation in memory of Jerry" or "Rhodes sail 7/15/21" - whatever is appropriate. You should also send an email to Treasurer Tony Valentino with further details, such as the crew list for the sail, etc.
Storage Location Needed
With Jerry Grennan’s passing SEAS is looking for short term (August through possibly the spring) and long term solutions to store SEAS equipment and trailered boats.

We will need to store the 4 sloops, safety boat, 2 laser trailers and a few others along with their gear and replacement parts.

If you have storage room or property that could accommodate any or all please contact Karen at kruckdes@verizon.net

Columbus Day Weekend
Chesapeake Bay Cruise and Cruising Course
Availability Update: the cruise is filled,
and one spot left in the course
Wow! Due to the absence of sailing in 2020, spots on the cruise and cruising course have been filling quickly – faster than in previous years. The two boats designated for the cruise are completely filled, and of the two cruising course boats, we have seven of our eight students. So we still have room in the cruising course for one more student. Even though the cruise is filled at the moment, we can still place people in a waiting list in case cruising spots open up. This can happen in two ways: if someone drops out, or, if we can’t get one more student, we will place a cruising participant on a cruising course boat.

Here’s some pertinent information about the cruise and cruising course.
This year SEAS has four boats, including two boats for the cruise and two boats for the cruising course. Crew sizes will be 5 people on a cruising boat, and 6 on a cruising course boat, including two instructors. All four boats will follow the same sailing itinerary for the weekend.

The itinerary will begin on Friday evening, October 8, with your arrival at the boats in Rock Hall MD's Haven Marina. We will depart on Saturday, October 9, for our three-day cruise, returning on Monday, October 11, in the late afternoon. We'll spend one evening with our four boats tied together and anchored in a quiet cove, and the other evening at one of the Chesapeake's bustling ports – Annapolis, St. Michaels, or Baltimore Inner Harbor.

The cruising course is designed to give you the experience and training you need to serve as crew on larger boats, whether you’ve never cruised before or were just a “passenger.” In the four classroom sessions and three days on the water, you’ll learn about navigation, anchoring, using the radio, plumbing and electrical systems on a boat, safety, clothing (what to bring), weather, using the engine, steering the boat, docking (how to use dock lines and fenders), sailing (what are all those "extra" control lines for?), living on a boat and much, much more.

The cost of the three-day cruise is $382, plus a $250 refundable security deposit. The cruising course is $451 (which includes all course materials), plus a $209 refundable security deposit. The per-person cost of food and incidentals is extra (approximately $40-50).

If you're interested in the cruise or cruising course, contact Ray Kimber at raykimber@comcast.net or 732-809-3718. For more information about each, including an application, go to Cruising/Cruising Course Application.
Special note about COVID:
We’ve all been doing our best to stay safe during this pandemic, and we at SEAS Monmouth want you to be safe and feel safe during these cruising activities. In this spirit we’re requiring that all of our cruise and cruising course participants have completed their vaccination or vaccination series at least two weeks prior to the cruise date (October 9) with any one of the approved vaccines. In addition, you may wear a mask at any time during these activities.
We need speakers and/or topics
for our monthly meetings
If you know someone who can present a topic of interest to SEAS members, or if you attended a meeting somewhere else that had a presentation that you think would be relevant at a SEAS meeting, please let Joan Venezia know. If you are able to speak with the person about coming to a SEAS meeting that would be great, but if all you have is their name and contact information, with some background information about their topic and where you saw them, email it to Joan at joan.venezia@hotmail.com and she'll take it from there!
