Mayor Bill de Blasio announced today that all private sector employees working in New York City must be fully vaccinated by December 27, 2021 in order to report to their workplace.
The Mayor also announced an expansion of the existing “Key to NYC” program – effective December 27, 2021, indoor food service businesses, indoor gyms and fitness settings, and indoor entertainment and recreational settings must ensure that all employees, contractors and customers over the age of 12 provide proof that they are fully vaccinated, as opposed to just having received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Additionally, starting December 14, 2021, children ages 5-11 will be required to show proof they received at least one vaccination dose to enter these businesses. At present, “fully vaccinated” means that at least 2 weeks have passed since the second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine (e.g., Pfizer, Moderna) or the dose of a one-dose COVID-19 vaccine (i.e., J&J).
New York City is expected issue additional guidance on the new private sector vaccine mandate and the expansion of the Key to NYC program by December 15.
