JUNE HIGHLIGHTS
UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY
GIBBONS PARK
The first Unity in the Community of the year was held on Sunday, June 27 at Gibbons Community Park in Carmichael.

This was a fun, family friendly event where the Sheriff's Office gave away free food, raffled away 25 bikes, and had multiple demonstrations and static displays!
Guests enjoyed burgers, hot dogs, chips, Hostess cakes, and popsicles. SAL would like to thank all the volunteers that made this event such a success!
KOPS-N- KIDS
SSO deputies helped coach Jr. Cadets at the Kops-N- Kids summer camp. The camp was a week long day camp for boys and girls between the ages of 8-12. Camp was held June 21-25 at Rosemont High School.
The Jr. Cadets enjoyed presentations from K9, Air Operations, Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and Explosive Ordnance Detail (EOD).
Jr. Cadets also toured the Kenneth Royal firearms training facility and explored Special Enforcement Detail's (SED's) Bearcat.
SAL would like to recognize volunteers and guest speakers who made the Kops-N-Kids summer camp a blast!
KIDS BIKE RODEO
A bike rodeo was held at the Sheriff's Office Headquarters. It was a great opportunity for the youth to learn about bicycle safety, riding skills, and bike repairs.

SAL would like to thank the Youth Leadership Council students for organizing such a great event!
Over 50 bikes were raffled off, and every kid received a free bike helmet!
LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN
The Sacramento Sheriff's Office personnel had the opportunity to help support the Special Olympics Northern California through fundraising and participating in a fun run to the State Capitol.
Runners were escorted to the Capitol by the Sheriff's Mustang and YSU vehicles. We would like to thank all personnel who participated in this year's Law Enforcement Torch Run!
BROKE BALL 2021
SAL supported the Boys & Girls Club annual fundraising event at the Broke Ball 2021. This event helps provide resources to the youth and their families.
POP UP EVENT
Deputies attended the Community Relations Unit's (CRU's) second Pop Up Event! North Sacramento community members stopped by to have a good time! Kids enjoyed cool giveaways, music, and games!
MAKE-A-WISH
CRU and YSU participated in a Make-A-Wish parade for Devin! Devin was met at his school, Herman Leimbach Elementary, and escorted in style!
AEROSPACE MUSEUM TOUR
Youth from our SAL programs (Young Marines, YLC, and SAL mentees) went on a guided tour of the Aerospace Museum of California. They explored historical aircrafts and space exhibits.
DYER-KELLEY ELEMENTARY
SAL deputies, Dinger (the River Cat's mascot), and Sacramento Republic FC participated in Dyer-Kelly Elementary School's "Field Day." Deputies took part in five different games with the youth. Afterwards, SAL provided Otter Pops to celebrate the end of the school year.
CAMP WITH YSU
SAL partnered with the Mission Oaks Recreation and Park District, attending a day camp at Oak Wood Park. The youth interacted with deputies, explored the vehicles, and learned how to use the lights and sirens. Our presence allows us to build positive mentoring relationships among the youth.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP COUNCIL
Every second and fourth Thursday of the month, deputies help facilitate the Youth Leadership Council (YLC), a program designed to help develop and strengthen leadership skills. SAL would like to thank YLC students for assisting the Sheriff's Office with Unity in the Community.
FAMILY NIGHT AT LIBERTY TOWERS
YSU deputies participate in Liberty Tower's "Family Night" every Thursday. This allows deputies to foster positive relationships with the community!
SUMMER CAMP AT LIBERTY TOWERS
Deputies assisted at Liberty Towers summer basketball camp. The youth participated in several drills facilitated by deputies.
BIGS WITH BADGES
Bigs with Badges is a one-to-one mentoring program that connects youth with law enforcement and other first responders to build lasting relationships. The program gives underprivileged children the opportunity and tools to realize their potential, build their future, and evolve into confident, responsible adults.

S.H.O.C.K.
The S.H.O.C.K. program takes on a leadership role by partnering with community-based organizations, local businesses, and other youth-serving agencies to reach out to those youth considered at-risk for making poor choices in their lives.

Chronic absenteeism, continuous disruption to classroom learning, signs of experimentation with drugs and/or alcohol, as well as involvement with the gang lifestyle are considered behaviors that could lead to devastating life-long consequences.

This program is designed to:

  • Redirect negative behavior

  • Provide partnerships with law enforcement, the community, and schools

  • Increase understanding of the criminal justice system

  • Emphasize the legal consequences of violating the law
S.H.O.C.K. is a structured program that provides juveniles with incentives, team building activities, and motivates them through positive reinforcement.

If you would like to refer an at-risk juvenile, click on the link provided below.
If you're interested in having the opportunity to impact our youth in a positive way through the program, contact Deputy Veronica Cervantes at vcervantes@sacsheriff.com
