FROM YOUR DIRECTOR
JEAN RENFORTH,
Executive Director
"Taxation without representation!" was the battle cry in America's 13 Colonies, which were forced to pay taxes to England's King George III despite having no representation in the British Parliament. As dissatisfaction grew, British troops were sent in to quell the early movement toward rebellion.
On June 11, 1776, the Colonies' Second Congress met in Philadelphia and formed a committee whose express purpose was drafting a document that would formally sever their ties with Great Britain. The committee included Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman and Robert R. Livingston. Jefferson, who was considered the strongest and most eloquent writer, crafted the original draft document. A total of 86 changes were made to his draft and the Continental Congress officially adopted the final version on July 4, 1776.
The following day, copies of the Declaration of Independence were distributed, and on July 6, The Pennsylvania Evening Post became the first newspaper to print the extraordinary document. The Declaration of Independence has since become our nation's most cherished symbol of liberty.
I celebrate our freedom with all of you at Crestwood Village!
COMMUNITY NEWS
ROAD TRIPPIN'
This month we are on the road to Massachusetts. Massachusetts holds the two largest cites in New England, Boston, the largest, and Worcester. Norfolk County is the birthplace of four United States presidents: John Adams, John Quincy Adams, John Fitzgerald Kennedy and George Herbert Walker Bush. Harvard was the first college established in North America. Harvard was founded in 1636. Because of Harvard’s size there is no universal mailing address that will work for every office at the University. The Boston Tea Party reenactment takes place in Boston Harbor every December 16th.

LOOKING BACK
June 2022
What a fun time we had in June. Residents from both Crestwood Villages attended an Indianapolis Indians Game for dollar night at the ball park. Singing the 7th inning stretch and watching a fantastic win from the Indians made the evening extra special.
This past month we also held a flag day parade. We had a great turn out with floats and residents walking. It may have been a hot one, but that did not stop anyone from participating! Join us next year for these fun events.

IS WATCHING TOO MUCH TV BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH?
The answer is yes! Too much TV watching can cause many health issues from heart attacks to diabetes.
Evidence from recent studies show the more TV you watch, the more likely you are to develop a host of health problems and may die at an earlier age.
Published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers found that for every additional two hours people spend glued to the TV, their risk of developing type 2 diabetes increases by 20%. Their risk of heart disease also increases by 15%.
Studies suggest that prolonged sitting (over 2.5 hours at one time) impact eating and exercise habits. This may cause metabolism changes that contribute to unhealthy cholesterol levels and obesity.
Don’t develop couch-potato syndrome. These are extremely sedentary people who spend several hours on a couch (hence the name) watching TV. Their energy expenditure is very low, even compared to other sedentary behaviors like sitting and reading or sitting while driving.
After every hour of TV watching, stand up, stretch, and walk around (not to the refrigerator!). While sitting, tense and relax your leg muscle for five minutes every hour.
