Escape

It is just a man made story, a fictional movie, with well-chosen actors, oh but it was a good one.  Many of you have seen “Top Gun Maverick” the new movie out which is a sequel to the movie Top Gun released in 1986.  I am not much for military and war type films but this one was fast moving, intriguing and had a little bit of everything from suspense to light romance.

I am writing this not to promote the movie but to reflect on what we choose to do for entertainment, for a “get away” and escape from routine responsibilities and our issues at bay.  There are so many choices we make that don’t merit the time we spend or the emptiness that accompanies us when we think we are fulfilling a need for escape.

I know this was just a movie, but still today it made me consider the many different aspects of life that we could identify with;
conflict and resolution, ( a topic for another time),
compassion, relationships, honesty, transparency, and guilt are just a few. But also it was a story of  having someone’s back, fighting for a cause that is good, making calls that are not in the “man-made book” but that are in your heart, not being able to let go, and dealing with risk, fear, deep friendship, and trusting in instincts that God gives us.  (God was not mentioned…but so many times we consider our own instincts when in fact I think they are actually God’s nudges.)

This movie to many was just a well made escape; but to me, it was a wake up call to be attentive to the escapes that are worthy ,,,. that do give you a pause for thought. It could be a great book, flying a plane, a stroll on the beach, sailing, a motorcycle ride, a glass of wine with a friend, touring a museum, coffee looking out on water, a hike in the woods, or even just a plain ole a bubble bath. But whatever you choose, find something that wakes up and refreshes your very being. Something that lightens your heart, energizes your thoughts,  and awakens your spirit and gives way to a productive insight into the offerings of the day.

God has made good choices available to each of us, but sometimes we have to slow down and “let go” and “let God” open our eyes and our thoughts to what he knows will renew our spirit and bless us. We are all different and are wired in ways that often others cannot understand, but remember that God is the one who made us as we are, no mistakes.   For we know, and he knows that the choices we make and the things that we allow our eyes to see, and ears to hear, our minds to wiggle through and our Spirits to be nudged  are the very workings that God uses for HIS will to be accomplished. He uses them  to  not only grow us but to help us build others up so that he will be glorified on this earth through our faith, trust and obedience to his calling.

Proverbs 22:19
So that your trust may be in the Lord, I teach you today, even you.

May you be blessed today by even a tiny escape and also be refreshed by not only a choice here and there that you will make but also in knowing that you are a masterpiece in God’s eyes, and he loves you with a love that has no bounds. His grace and mercy continues to overflow over and through each of us.  Amen

Praise God wherever you are and whatever situation He has allowed you to be in . . . His glory will shine through!
