Regional and Executive Director Reports

As I scramble to write another report for Green Matter I’m chuckling at myself for once again for leaving it to the last minute. I know many of you can relate, we’ve been doing this since high school, cramming for the exam comes to mind. I know around British Columbia most Superintendents golf courses are open and many of you will be full steam ahead with all of the spring cultural practices that happen this time of year. Aerate everything, feed everything, and get mad at everyone. This last part is my favourite. I showed a member my pants with two wet knees the other day. I explained how those two wet knees were my two mood buttons, one wet knee=slightly upset, two wet knees=angry keep your distance. It’s been a busy start to the year and as a rule so far it’s been two wet knees for me.

The Bright Side of Hell
As Winston Churchill once said, “When you’re going through hell, keep going…” The world has certainly been “going through hell” since the pandemic landed, and the pressures on everyone seem to be mounting the longer it goes. Unfortunately, Canada is nowhere near the front of the line in terms of vaccine roll outs, so that hell is lasting longer than it should. Within golf, Ontario has become the poster child for all of that, having been shut down completely. Other provinces are grinding through various degrees of restrictions and health statistics. But we must all “keep going...”

Message from Clear Health Benefits on Mental Health
|
From May 3 to 9, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is recognizing the 70th annual Mental Health Week, with a focus on understanding emotion.
*One in five Canadians experiences mental illness or a mental health issue in any given year, and mental illness indirectly affects all Canadians at some time through a family member, friend or colleague. More recently, as many as 40 per cent of Canadians say their mental health has deteriorated since the onset of the pandemic. Mental Health Week aims to shift societal beliefs and perceptions while promoting behaviours and attitudes that support good mental health and create a culture of understanding and acceptance.
